A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS, COMMEMORATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MR. LEWIS JACKSON, AND EXPRESSING SINCERE SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, the grand architect of the universe, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny, has summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved Mr. Lewis Jackson to eternal rest, rendering great sorrow to his family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, the Hattiesburg community lost a wonderful friend and devoted family man with the passing of Mr. Jackson, who was the only son born out of the 12 children under the union of Myrtle and the late B.J. Jackson; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson received his formal education from the Hattiesburg School District, and after leaving high school he pursued his goal of learning about business so that, as he declared when he was a child, he could buy himself a truck; and

     WHEREAS, at the age of 17, Mr. Jackson started his first job, working for Harris Construction Co., and he gained enough knowledge over the years to open his own construction business which he ran for more than 40 years; and

     WHEREAS, a dedicated Christian, Mr. Jackson attended several churches in the City of Hattiesburg throughout his life, including Priest Creek, Ebenezer M.B. Church and True Seeker; and

     WHEREAS, though he has traversed the river of life to reunite with those who have answered God's summons to life eternal and now beckon his arrival to the celestial shores of Heaven's grandeur, the legacy of Mr. Jackson's memory will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of his beloved survivors:  loving wife, Shirley Bankston Jackson; children, Jeffrey Jackson, Vernell Jackson, Kendra Dixon, Cindy Dixon, Whitney Griffith, Jack Griffith, Penny Darboe and Shunell Morris; sisters, Bobby Nell Wilson, Mose Mary Townes, Helen Joyce Jackson, Therah Nathaniel, Francis Harris, Beverly Scarbrough, Sherry Jackson and Betty Jean Jackson; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the lives of fine Mississippians, such as Mr. Jackson, whose love for his family and children will never be forgotten:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss, and commemorate the life and legacy of Mr. Lewis Jackson, and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Lewis Jackson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
