A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. DELORIS HARRIS WILSON FOR HER 33 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CHILDREN OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Deloris Harris Wilson retired on December 17, 2010, from the Leland School District, where she began as a vocational director and was later promoted to assistant principal; and

     WHEREAS, after 33 years of impeccable service to the children of this great state in the school districts of Sunflower County, Indianola and Leland, she will be delivering more impeccable service as grandmother to her beloved grandchildren, Ayliahna and Kierra; and

     WHEREAS, she has been supported throughout her career by her loving husband, Willie, and three sons, Willie (Felicia), Michael (Amelia), and William; and

     WHEREAS, on March 19, 2011, a host of family and friends will commemorate her retirement and many years of service with a celebration in her honor; and

     WHEREAS, she began her career in 1977 in the Sunflower County School District, and served as a language arts teacher, a social studies teacher and a counselor until 2003; from 2003-2007, she worked for the Indianola School District as a special population coordinator and a vocational counselor; and from 2007-2011, she has diligently acted as the vocational director and the assistant principal with the Leland School District; and

     WHEREAS, her passion for the education of young children was cultivated when she earned her bachelor of science degree in elementary education in 1975, and a master's degree in elementary education in 1980; and

     WHEREAS, her desire to improve the lives of young people motivated her to pursue and earn a master's degree in guidance and counseling in 1991, and later in 2006, earned a master's degree in administration and supervision; and

     WHEREAS, an active member of Mitchell Temple Church of God in Christ, she is an evangelist missionary, church mother, trustee, deaconess, senior high Sunday School teacher, worship leader, and district 4 Sunday School field worker at the church; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Wilson works hard in all aspects of her life toward positive results, and will spend her days of retirement attending local, state and national church conferences and writing Christian children's books; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize Mississippians who have spent numerous years of their lives dedicated to enhancing the lives of our young people and making Mississippi's future brighter:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Mrs. Deloris Harris Wilson for her 33 years of dedicated service to the children of this state.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Deloris Harris Wilson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
