A RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND HONORING ASHTON BIGGS OF CLINTON, MISSISSIPPI, UPON BEING NAMED AS A DISTINGUISHED FINALIST AMONG THE 2012 TOP YOUTH VOLUNTEERS IN MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, Ashton Biggs, an esteemed resident of Clinton, Mississippi, and a student at Central Hinds Academy in Raymond, Mississippi, has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by being named a Distinguished Finalist in the 17th Annual - 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and
WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and
WHEREAS, Ashton earned this award by giving generously of her time and energy to teach golf lessons to those who could not afford them, and to raise money through various golf tournaments; and
WHEREAS, Ashton is an active member of the National Honor Society and helps with its service projects including raising funds for the Wounded Warrior Project, the Alzheimer's Walk and Cans for the Needy; and
WHEREAS, students of Ashton's caliber represent the best of America's youth, who are role models to their peers and their communities, and are sought by Prudential to encourage other young people, our future leaders and all Americans to respect and honor the value and importance of volunteering in their communities; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend and honor dedicated young people such as Ashton, who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others, contributing to the success of the State of Mississippi, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby congratulate and honor Ashton Biggs as a recipient of a Prudential Spirit of Community Award, recognize her outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership and community spirit, and extend best wishes for continued success and happiness in all of her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ashton Biggs and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
