A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DEDICATED SERVICE OF MRS. PAIGE HUNT TO THE GREENWOOD CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU AND CONGRATULATING HER ON HER NEW JOB WITH THE MISSISSIPPI DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY.
WHEREAS, upstanding public servant, Mrs. Paige Hunt, has announced her plans to retire from the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau as Executive Director, and undertake a new position with the Mississippi Development Authority; and
WHEREAS, as Executive Director of the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau, Mrs. Hunt has overseen an annual budget of approximately $435,000.00; and
WHEREAS, in further fulfillment of her role as executive director, Mrs. Hunt, conceives, plans and implements comprehensive marketing campaigns, such as working with and hosting domestic and international travel writers, with an average of 10 travel writers per year whose articles equate to over $1,000,000.00 in advertising; and
WHEREAS, she has also attended travel trade shows to promote Greenwood as a group tour destination, which has resulted in six tours per year and over $100,000.00 of economic impact for Greenwood; and
WHEREAS, her leadership securing the DreamWorks-produced major motion picture "The Help," which resulted in an economic impact of $13,000,000.00 for Greenwood; and
WHEREAS, in 2011, she planned and oversaw all aspects of the Robert Johnson Centennial Celebration in May, which drew visitors from 30 states and 11 foreign countries and led to an increase of 92% in website traffic; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure with the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau, she has worked with local, state and national politicians spreading the "Great News" of Greenwood; and
WHEREAS, professionally, Mrs. Hunt is highly regarded by her peers, and as evidence of this regard, she has been chosen as one of the 50 Leading Businesswomen in Mississippi by the Mississippi Business Journal (2013), Greenwood's Top 30 Under 40 and the Travel South USA Ambassador Award; and
WHEREAS, not only has Mrs. Hunt earned personal accolades as executive director, the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau has earned accolades during her leadership, such as being chosen the Mississippi Tourism Association Convention and Visitors Bureau of the Year (2009 and 2011), the Mississippi Tourism Association Tourism Promotion of the Year (2009 and 2012), the Mississippi Tourism Association Festival/Event of the Year (2012); and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hunt is very active on community boards, such as the Mississippi State University Alumni Association National Board of Directors, Delta Garden Club (President), the Leflore Carroll Chapter of the Mississippi State Alumni Association (President, Vice President and Treasurer), the Mississippi Blues Fest (Chair and Vice Chair), River to the Rails Festival (Chair), Greenwood Rotary Club (Vice President, Board of Directors, Fundraising Chair), Greenwood Main Street Association (Board of Directors), Mississippi Delta Tourism Association (Secretary and Board of Directors) and the Southeast Tourism Society (Tourism Marketing Professional Certification-3 Year Program); and
WHEREAS, Greenwood's loss is the state's gain, as Mrs. Hunt will be taking her skills to the Mississippi Development Authority, where she will continue to be a public servant; and
WHEREAS, it is our policy to commend public servants, such as Mrs. Paige Hunt, who work hard to improve the economic climate of our fine cities and counties, and strive to be better public servants:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That we do hereby commend the dedicated service of Mrs. Paige Hunt to the Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau and congratulate her on her new job with the Mississippi Development Authority.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Paige Hunt and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
