A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND RECOGNIZE THE SOUTHEASTERN CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF LAW LIBRARIES UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS 2020 ANNUAL MEETING IN JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, ON APRIL 16-18, 2020.

     WHEREAS, as one of the most distinguished organizations in the southeastern United States, the Southeastern Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries (SEAALL) will be having its 2020 Annual Meeting in Jackson, Mississippi, on April 16-18, 2020; and

     WHEREAS, established in 1954, SEAALL is a not-for-profit organization with the purpose of promoting law librarianship and developing and increasing the usefulness of law libraries, particularly those in the southeastern area of the United States; and

     WHEREAS, the overall mission of SEAALL is to provide educational services for its members, which is primarily accomplished through the many educational offerings at the annual meeting and through instructive articles, pathfinders and bibliographies in its newsletter, The Southeastern Law Librarian; and

     WHEREAS, as an esteemed organization dedicated to law library excellence, SEAALL has grown from the 1937 meeting of a group of ten North Carolina law librarians who worked within 35 miles of each other to a membership of more than 500 law librarians from eleven southeastern states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, who work in the private sector, government and academia; and

     WHEREAS, since its inception, SEAALL membership has diversified in terms of the types of employment held by librarians, with the original group being nine academic law librarians and one state court librarian, to current membership reflecting the expansion of law librarians into corporations, law firms, county law libraries, federal courts, state and federal agencies and independent contractors and consultants; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize outstanding organizations, especially those such as the Southeastern Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries, whose dedication to law library excellence brings honor to the organization, the legacy of its former and currant intrepid leaders, the conglomerate of its astute members and to the southeastern United States:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize the Southeastern Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries upon the occasion of its 2020 Annual Meeting being held in Jackson, Mississippi, on April 16-18, 2020.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Southeastern Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
