A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING KEEP DESOTO COUNTY BEAUTIFUL UPON RECEIVING A SECOND CONSECUTIVE KEEP AMERICA BEAUTIFUL PRESIDENT'S CIRCLE AWARD.
WHEREAS, for the second consecutive year, Keep DeSoto County Beautiful has received the Keep America Beautiful President's Circle Award, in recognition of their hard work and exemplary performance in administering activities in litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and community greening; and
WHEREAS, according to Keep DeSoto County Beautiful Executive Director Ray Laughter, the award was a result of the teamwork and partnership efforts of the Keep DeSoto County Beautiful Board, the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors and each individual DeSoto County municipality; and
WHEREAS, Keep DeSoto County Beautiful began in 2015, through a partnership with the board of supervisors, the cities of Southaven, Olive Branch, Horn Lake, Hernando and Walls and the Keep Mississippi Beautiful affiliates; and
WHEREAS, its aim is to protect the integrity of DeSoto County's natural landscape, including the prevention of litter, encouraging recycling and improving the beauty of the county by providing resources to help solve problems associated with litter prevention and waste management; and
WHEREAS, Keep DeSoto County Beautiful's contributions to DeSoto County that led to this award include playing integral roles in the annual DeSoto County Earth Day Celebration, the spring Countywide Cleanup, the fall Household Hazardous Waste Day Drop-off Event, plus aiding in expanding the electronics, tire waste collection and recycling efforts; and
WHEREAS, recognizing the inherent value of a cleaner DeSoto County, Keep DeSoto County Beautiful has spearheaded an effort to prevent littering, placing a greater emphasis on education and awareness, making DeSoto County a happier, cleaner place to live for everyone; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize outstanding contributions like that of Keep DeSoto County Beautiful, whose hard work and dedication to the community has made DeSoto County a more beautiful and happy place to live, and in so doing Keep DeSoto County Beautiful has brought great honor to its community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Keep DeSoto County Beautiful upon receiving their second consecutive Keep America Beautiful President's Circle Award, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Keep DeSoto County Beautiful Executive Director Ray Laughter and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
