House Resolution 46

A resolution commending Donald Driver for his humanitarian efforts and for winning the Super Bowl in 2011.

     WHEREAS, Donald Jerome Driver was born February 2, 1975, in Houston, Texas; and

     WHEREAS, Donald Driver overcame difficult times during his youth to excel as an athlete and a true role model; and

     WHEREAS, Donald Driver attended Alcorn State University where he lettered in both football and track and field and he is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha; and

     WHEREAS, he finished his college football career at Alcorn State University with 88 receptions for 1,993 yards averaging 19.69 yards per catch; and

     WHEREAS, Driver was a five-time Athlete of the Year in his conference for his track and football prowess; and

     WHEREAS, picked by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round of the 1999 NFL Draft, Driver has been a three-time Pro Bowl selection in 2002, 2006 and 2007; and

     WHEREAS, he is the all-time leader in receptions and yards on historic Lambeau Field and he is the only player in Packers' history to record seven 1,000 yard receiving seasons; and

     WHEREAS, Donald Driver achieved a title very few in football achieve when he became a Super Bowl Champion in 2011; and

     WHEREAS, Donald Driver has enjoyed great success off the football field as exemplified by his work through The Donald Driver Foundation which offers assistance to ill children with unmanageable hospital bills, provides housing for the homeless, donates to a variety of local charities and provides scholarships to students in Mississippi, Texas and Wisconsin; and

     WHEREAS, Donald has donated much of his time and efforts to such institutions as Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and Goodwill Industries and in 2001 he was awarded the Community Service Award by the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce in recognition of his outstanding community involvement; and

     WHEREAS, Donald Driver received the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2002, the only NFL award that recognizes off-the-field service as well as playing excellence; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence especially when evidenced by such an outstanding man as Donald Driver.

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Donald Driver for becoming a Super Bowl Champion, for his exemplary efforts to help others and for his community service and humanitarian efforts.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Donald Driver, the Green Bay Packers and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
