A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING RICKY STENHOUSE, JR., ON HIS NUMEROUS RACING ACHIEVEMENTS AND OVERALL IMPRESSIVE CAREER AS A PROFESSIONAL NASCAR DRIVER.
WHEREAS, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., from DeSoto County, Mississippi, is a professional NASCAR driver who grew up knowing that he wanted to race professionally, and throughout his years behind the wheel, he has received national recognition for his abilities by winning multiple championship series; and
WHEREAS, a young cowboy from northern Mississippi, there was not a dirt track racer in Mississippi who did not know and fear the name Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., as he made himself known as quite the dirt race track competitor in northern Mississippi and throughout the south; and
WHEREAS, Ricky's prowess and ability to make maneuvering a racecar look simple caught the attention of one of the most famed NASCAR champions and dirt team owners in the country, Tony Stewart, who put Ricky in premier equipment and let him loose, which proved to be one of the best decisions Stewart ever made; and
WHEREAS, with the right gear and support, Ricky rose to prominence in the NASCAR arena, winning several races and championships, and when legendary team owner Jack Roush signed him to a multi-year contract, Ricky knew that he had permanently left his mark of greatness on the NASCAR world; and
WHEREAS, to thank Mr. Roush for signing him and ultimately showcasing his talent on the national stage, Ricky outpaced, outmaneuvered and outran the other drivers to claim back-to-back NASCAR XFINITY Series Championships and basked in the glory of victory underneath a champagne shower in the winner's circle while hoisting the championship trophies high in the air for all of his adoring fans to gaze upon in awe; and
WHEREAS, after proving himself time and again on the racetrack, Ricky is now the anchor veteran for Roush Fenway Racing's multi-car operation, speedily driving the No. 17 Fastenal Ford past the checkered flag and the other drivers, equipped with the wherewithal of a person who has become one with the car, a true lean, mean driving and championship-winning machine; and
WHEREAS, when he is not pulling into the rear view of other drivers before hastily leaving them in a cloud of dust, Ricky leads a very active and fit lifestyle, enjoys hitting a round of 18 on a warm day, and spends time on the small farm outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, that he shares with his fellow NASCAR driver and girlfriend, Danica Patrick; and
WHEREAS, additionally, Ricky also owns a grassroots open wheel dirt team, which allows him to give back to the same community which helped propel his career to the success it knows today; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor fine Mississippians, especially those such as Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., whose success on the race track and in the professional world of NASCAR racing has brought national recognition to his community and to this great Magnolia State:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., on his numerous racing achievements and overall impressive career as a professional NASCAR racer and extend sincere wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
