A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2015 SMITHVILLE HIGH SCHOOL LADY NOLES SLOW-PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Smithville High School Lady Noles Softball Team defeated Ethel in a pair of wins to claim back-to-back Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 1A Slow-pitch State Championship titles, and their fourth title in the last five seasons; and
WHEREAS, even though the Lady Noles had somewhat slow starts in both title games, the team persevered and never gave up, and in the end, the Lady Noles never came close to losing either game, proving they were clearly the best team in Class 1A; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Noles defeated Ethel in their first matchup by a dominant score of 22-4 and kept the momentum up in their second game to clinch the title with a score of 16-7; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Noles faced stiff competition the whole season, but the team's strong work ethic and discipline led them to an unbelievable 31-5 season; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Noles lost five seniors from the previous years' team, and some even doubted if they would be able to make it to the North State Championship, but this team showed they had the heart to put those thoughts to rest and claim the championship as their own; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Jeremy Duke continues to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in his ability to produce high caliber players and by the team's incredibly successful season; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor and commend the extraordinary student athletes of this state, such as the Smithville Lady Noles, whose never-ending success brings pride to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Smithville High School Lady Noles Slow-pitch Softball Team and Head Coach Jeremy Duke for winning the MHSAA Class 1A State Championship for the second year in a row, and extend best wishes for continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Jeremy Duke, Smithville High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
