A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING KAYTELYN HARRIS UPON BEING NAMED THE 2025 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI OVERALL FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.
WHEREAS, Kaytelyn Harris of Quitman, Mississippi, has been named the 2025 State Games of Mississippi Overall Female Athlete of the Year, an honor recognizing exceptional athletic achievement, perseverance and dedication; and
WHEREAS, Kaytelyn has participated in the sport of disc golf for only one and one-half years, yet during that brief period she has distinguished herself by earning back-to-back gold medals in the State Games of Mississippi and placing in 10 competitive tournaments across the region; and
WHEREAS, during the 2025 competitive season, Kaytelyn achieved a significant personal milestone by recording her best tournament round at only four strokes over par, reflecting rapid growth, discipline and competitive excellence in a demanding sport; and
WHEREAS, Kaytelyn has identified the mental aspects of competition as her greatest challenge, emphasizing focus, composure and enjoyment of the game, stating, "I work at getting out of my head and just throwing. Each round, I make a conscious effort to just have fun and enjoy the sport, no matter the score"; and
WHEREAS, as a single mother of three young children, Kaytelyn discovered disc golf during a difficult period in her life and found through the sport a supportive and encouraging community that fostered both personal healing and athletic growth; and
WHEREAS, Disc Golf Commissioner Bruce Bullock praised her dedication and work ethic, noting that she practices at every opportunity regardless of weather conditions and that her improvement and commitment have been remarkable to observe; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippi athletes whose determination, resilience and accomplishments bring honor to their communities and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Kaytelyn Harris upon being named the 2025 State Games of Mississippi Overall Female Athlete of the Year, and extend sincere best wishes for continued success in all her future athletic and personal endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Kaytelyn Harris and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
