A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE FLORENCE HIGH SCHOOL LADY EAGLES SOCCER TEAM AND COACH BILL HOOD FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.
WHEREAS, the Florence High School Girls Soccer Team has an historic win and has made a name for itself as it secured the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A State Championship after defeating Lafayette with a score of 3-2; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles Soccer Team's historic win occurred on February 5, 2022, the title was Florence's first state title in Class 5A and second-straight soccer State Championship after winning Class 4A a year ago, and it was the Florence High School's sixth state soccer title overall; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles were superbly coached and inspired by Coach Bill Hood, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills and execution; and
WHEREAS, along with Coach Hood's superb coaching, leadership and guidance, the Lady Eagles Soccer Team also received excellent guidance and supervision from Assistant Coach Joshua Cavanaugh; and
WHEREAS, the talented members of the 2022 Florence High School Girls Soccer Championship Team members are as follows: Skyla Yount, Addison Grantham, Meagan Spencer, Addie Grace Barnard, Madelyn Edwards, Kailee Lilley, Ashlyn Starnes, Christina Guzman, Kylee Cloer, Ella Grace Sanford, Emma Marchant, Cameron Cloer, Rylee Raymond, Sydney O'Hair, Leslie Carroll, Kendal Patterson, Caroline Sanford, Mary Elise Taylor, Rachel Parr, Kamryn Frazier, Shaelynn Quick and Breeanna Goza; and
WHEREAS, the Florence High School Girls Soccer Team has developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a superb degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit and bring great honor upon Florence High School, the individual players, their coaches, the school's administration as well as parents of these scholar-athletes; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when displayed by the young people of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Florence High School Girls Soccer Team and Coach Bill Hood for their outstanding season, for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Bill Hood, Florence High School Principal Dr. Roderick D. Sheppard, the Rankin County School Board and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
