A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ALCORN CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL DANCE TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2014 1A-6A HIP-HOP STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
WHEREAS, the impressive ladies of the Alcorn Central High School Dance Team earned the 1A-6A Hip-Hop State Championship Title, capturing its fourth state title; and
WHEREAS, the team passionately executed their moves against 14 other teams, who were all judged on execution of hip-hop movement, skill, strength and control, as well as synchronization/uniformity of timing and rhythm, spacing and communication and projection of connection and engaging the audience; and
WHEREAS, the routine itself was judged on the choreography of creative hip-hop movements, level changes and group work, with an overall goal of combining crowd appeal and involvement, music, choreography and costume; and
WHEREAS, the team was superbly coached by Marley Whitaker Ashe, who has been with the dance team since its inception, and who is now the coach and choreographer; and
WHEREAS, from 2010, the team had won 3 consecutive championship titles in Hip-Hop, just to lose as runner-ups in 2013; and
WHEREAS, their goal was to bring home, what was theirs, the state title for best Hip-Hop dance team, and they have claimed sweat, blood, tears, pulled muscles and bruises in their effort to achieve their goal; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the tremendous accomplishments of our youth, such as the Alcorn Central High School Dance Team members who are positive examples for their peers:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That we do hereby commend the Alcorn Central High School Dance Team for winning the 2014 1A-6A Hip-Hop State Championship Title.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Alcorn Central High School Dance Team, their coach, Marley Whitaker Ashe, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
