A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING PAIGE NICHOLSON UPON RECEIVING THE DISTINCT HONOR AND PRIVILEGE OF HOLDING THE TITLE OF MISS RODEO MISSISSIPPI 2013.

WHEREAS, on January 12, 2013, Paige Nicholson of Lawrence, Mississippi, became the 39th young lady to be crowned Miss Rodeo Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, holding the distinct honor and privilege of Miss Rodeo Mississippi, Miss Nicholson will represent Mississippi at all Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) events throughout the state and abroad for a period of one year; and

WHEREAS, as Miss Rodeo Mississippi, Miss Nicholson will have the opportunity to compete for the title of Miss Rodeo America 2013, and this competition will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, in December 2013; and

WHEREAS, Miss Nicholson is a 2009 graduate of Alpha Omega Homeschool who, while in public school, participated in various activities, including: a myriad of 4-H activities, showing livestock and rodeoing; and

WHEREAS, now in college, Miss Nicholson attends Mississippi State University where she is pursuing a bachelor's degree in agricultural information science, and possesses strong aspirations to further her collegiate matriculation by pursuing a master's degree while continuing to rodeo and team rope; and

WHEREAS, Miss Nicholson was active as a rodeo competitor and enthusiast throughout junior high and high school, competing in several associations, including: National Little Britches Rodeo Association (NLBRA); National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA); her local riding club; Mississippi Junior High Rodeo Association; and National High School Rodeo Association; and

WHEREAS, during her competitive years, she garnered several awards and titles, including: Outstanding Senior 4-Her; Miss Rodeo Mississippi Teen; National High School Rodeo Association Queen Contest Top Ten; Miss Mississippi High School Rodeo; and National Wrangler Top Hand Team, two-time selectee; and

WHEREAS, actively engaged at Mississippi State, Paige is a member of the MSU Rodeo and Dairy Science Clubs, Miss Maroon and White, an Emmie Williams Memorial and Fuquay Endowed Scholarship recipient, and maintains academic excellence as a MSU President's list scholar; and

WHEREAS, when Miss Nicholson is not promoting the sport of rodeo, she enjoys riding horses, attending Mississippi State University events, and writing magazine articles; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to share in the enthusiasm of citizens of this state as they represent Mississippi through a great title, such as Miss Nicholson as she serves as Miss Rodeo Mississippi, on a statewide and national level:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Paige Nicholson upon receiving the distinct honor and privilege of holding the title of Miss Rodeo Mississippi 2013, and extend best wishes for success as she serves as Mississippi's First Lady of Professional Rodeo.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Nicholson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
