A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING CHRISTONE "KINGFISH" INGRAM UPON WINNING HIS FIRST GRAMMY FOR BEST CONTEMPORARY BLUES ALBUM FOR 662 AT THE 64TH ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS.
WHEREAS, rising star blues guitarist, songwriter and vocalist from Clarksdale, Mississippi, Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, won his first-ever career Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album for his sophomore release, 662, at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday, April 3, 2022; and
WHEREAS, at 23 years of age, "Kingfish" has been embraced by the media, which has hailed him for his incendiary guitar playing, soulful vocals and memorable songwriting, including Rolling Stone Magazine, which declared him as, "One of the most exciting young guitarists in years, with a sound that encompasses B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix and Prince"; and
WHEREAS, having previously received a 2019 Grammy Award nomination for his debut album Kingfish, Ingram, who just completed the first half of his nationwide 662 Juke Joint Live tour, which included his debut at New York's famed Apollo Theater, noted that the "wow moment" of his unexpected Grammy win was for his late mother, Princess Pride, and for the great State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, making its world debut on XM/Sirius Radio's B.B. King's Bluesville, 662 was the most-played record on blues radio during 2021 according to Living Blues' annual Radio Airplay Chart; and
WHEREAS, one who crafts solos that reflect a mind as quick as his fingers - each note sounds right, each string-bend and grunge-flecked wail appropriate in its place, Ingram's singing is birthed within his soulful and resonant voice, which showcases his musical artistry as a lyric craftsman of depth and substance; and
WHEREAS, irrefutably destined for an incredibly bright future of superstardom, Ingram, whose singing and playing is well beyond his years, performed at the massive Byron Bay Bluesfest in Australia, and is scheduled to travel to the United Kingdom and Europe, with dates in England, Scotland, the Netherlands, France and Italy in June and July; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to acknowledge the success of such remarkable musical talents as "Kingfish," whose reimagined expansive interpretation of the blues has garnered him much acclaim and solidifies the fact that Mississippi remains the birthplace of America's music:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, upon winning his first-ever career Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, and extend most sincere wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Christone "Kingfish" Ingram and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
