A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ATHLETIC SUCCESS OF DUSTIN HUNTER RENFROE OF THE MISSISSIPPI STATE BULLDOGS BASEBALL TEAM AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON BEING SELECTED IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL DRAFT AS THE 13TH SELECTION.

     WHEREAS, Dustin Hunter Renfroe, 21, a junior from Crystal Springs majoring in kinesiology, and the son of Todd and Tammy White Renfroe, has experienced quite a exhilarating ride throughout his collegiate baseball career with the Mississippi State University Bulldogs, this year being no less exceptional with the Diamond Dogs' epic sojourn to the 2013 College World Series, due in part to his contributions; and

     WHEREAS, the appearance in the College World Series is just a natural progression for Renfroe capping a season that included his being named the best college baseball player in Mississippi by receiving the 2013 C-Spire Wireless Ferriss Trophy, named to First Team All-SEC and being selected in the first round as the 13th overall draft pick by the San Diego Padres; and

     WHEREAS, Renfroe, a 6-foot, 1-inch outfielder, led the Southeastern Conference with 16 home runs, a .620 slugging percentage and finished fifth in the league with a .345 batting average and 65 RBIs; and

     WHEREAS, named Most Valuable Player of the 2012 Cal Ripken, Sr. League season, Renfroe led the league with 16 home runs, 53 runs batted in, 47 runs scored, and a .866 slugging percentage, which were all league records and led the Big Train to their fifth consecutive league championship series appearance by hitting three more home runs in five postseason games; and

     WHEREAS, the recipient of numerous state, Southeastern Conference and national awards, Renfroe is poised to take his baseball career to the next level this time around after having been selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 31st round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft; and

     WHEREAS, among the many accolades received by the Preseason All-American and two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll Selectee, College World Series sportscasters described Renfroe as an all-around best player in the game, which such credentials coming to fruition with his performance against Oregon State to help put Mississippi State in the winners bracket of the College World Series; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the excellence and sportsmanship of such remarkable individuals as Hunter, who has equally devoted his efforts to academics and athletics, which have rewarded him handsomely for his dedication:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the athletic success of Dustin Hunter Renfroe of the Mississippi State Bulldogs Baseball Team, congratulate him upon being selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft as the 13th selection; and extend our most sincere wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Hunter Renfroe and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
