A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING AND COMMENDING THE LIFE OF MRS. JESSIE POLLY HOLLOWAY BEVERLY AND CONGRATULATING HER UPON THE CELEBRATION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY.

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Jessie Polly Holloway Beverly, born on January 3, 1910, is celebrating the blessed milestone occasion of her 100th birthday at the Jefferson County High School in Fayette, Mississippi, on Saturday, January 9, 2010; and

     WHEREAS, having lived during some of the most difficult eras in America's history, Mrs. Beverly has relied on God as the driving force to overcome the bleakest of circumstances in life, and has truly been blessed for her perseverance; and   

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Beverly, a woman of grace and beauty, has seen America change from an agricultural society to an advanced technological industrial giant, and on her watch has observed the actions of several United States Presidents and Magnolia State Governors; and

     WHEREAS, on January 3, 1910, Mrs. Beverly was born to the late Jesse and Minnie Rice Holloway of Fayette, Mississippi, and was reared in Christian love along with her late brother, Thomas B. Holloway; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Beverly, a native of Fayette, Mississippi, and staunch believer in education, received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Rust College in 1959, and received a master's degree in library science from Atlanta University; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Beverly, a God-fearing woman and believer, was reared in the United Methodist Chapel Church, which is currently Adams Chapel Church, and is a Mother of Mt. Zion Church of God and Christ, both of which are located in Fayette, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Beverly met the late Superintendent Mason Beverly at life's intersection of love and affection, the two were united in matrimonial bonds on June 26, 1936, after a loving courtship, and shared a wonderful marriage full of love, respect and honor; and

     WHEREAS, out of this holy and blessed union was born one loving daughter, the late Camille M. Beverly; and

     WHEREAS, exemplary of her Christ-like love, Mrs. Beverly always put the community and neighborhood first and places herself a distant second in her daily life without complaint; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Beverly taught school at the early age of 17 at Charles Summer School, was the first librarian in Jefferson County, dutifully served as a librarian at Addison High School in Port Gibson, Mississippi, and later returned to Fayette, Mississippi as a librarian where she retired in 1977; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Beverly was a contributing member of the following:  several professional teacher associations and organizations, the Chamber of Commerce, and was a charter member of the Fayette Garden Club; and

     WHEREAS, known for steadfast service to the community and to God, Mrs. Beverly believes service to be rewarding, and taught the local children that serving the Lord forever pays off; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor and recognize the life of such an astonishingly noble, experienced and gentle soul as Mrs. Jessie Polly Holloway Beverly, whose life is a testament of her faith in God:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby acknowledge and commend the life of Mrs. Jessie Polly Holloway Beverly, congratulate her upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th birthday and extend warmest wishes for many more years of good health, love and peace.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Jessie Polly Holloway Beverly and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
