A RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING KRISTY D'ANNA JOHNSON UPON BEING NAMED MISS BLACK MISSISSIPPI USA 2017, AND EXTENDING BEST WISHES FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS.
WHEREAS, a proud resident of Jackson, Mississippi, Kristy D'Anna Johnson was honored to receive the title of Miss Black Mississippi USA 2017; and
WHEREAS, Kristy is a 2013 graduate of Jackson State University with a bachelors of science in psychology, and is currently a second year graduate student at Mississippi College where she is studying to become a licensed mental health counselor, and after graduation she will attend the University of Alabama's Psychology Doctoral Program, with a concentration in law, to become a behavioral analyst; and
WHEREAS, an active member of her community and the state at large, Kristy takes part in many civic organizations, including Big Brothers and Sisters of America, Youth Advisory Council for the Mississippi Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Girls with a Dream, Kountry Kidz Incorporated, and is a 2016 inductee into the Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Honors Society; and
WHEREAS, Kristy's platform is "Be Empowered," which aims to uplift youth across the state to become effective leaders, and utilizing Maslow's Hierarchy of Need as a model for this platform, Kristy will go across the state from January through May to discuss social issues within our younger population; and
WHEREAS, during each session Kristy hosts, attendees will provide their own story and she will combine each of those sessions into a documentary that will help other youths realize they can conquer anything; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the accomplishments of fine Mississippians, such as Kristy, whose dedication to improving the lives of those in her community and throughout the entire state brings great pride to everyone who knows her:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize the great accomplishments of Kristy D'Anna Johnson and congratulate her on being named Miss Black Mississippi USA 2017, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Kristy D'Anna Johnson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
