A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MRS. JOHNNIE MAE TYSON ON CELEBRATING THE MOST AUSPICIOUS OCCASION OF THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF HER BIRTH ON FEBRUARY 16, 2015.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Johnnie Mae Tyson, born on February 16, 1935, to the late Arthur and Emma Ratliff on the Ben McCarty Plantation in Carroll County, Mississippi, the eighth of her parents' eleven offspring, celebrates the 80th anniversary of her birth on Monday, February 16, 2015, to be commemorated with a celebration acknowledging and honoring her motherhood and service; and
WHEREAS, an individual of wise counsel among countless individuals to bear the title as a mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Mrs. Tyson, who graduated 8th grade from Hamilton School in Carroll County before attending Broad Street School in Greenwood, Mississippi, through Grade 10, has been blessed with a prosperous life of health, longevity, spirituality and love from her family and friends, as she has abounded in wisdom and knowledge to become the matriarch of her family; and
WHEREAS, having moved to Leflore County in 1954 before subsequently relocating to Chicago, Illinois, in 1957, Mrs. Tyson's heart was pierced by the love, chivalry and affection of Freddie Tyson, to whom she was united in the sacred bonds of holy matrimony on September 19, 1963, and blessed with the fruitful addition of two children, Brenda and Arletha; and
WHEREAS, having experienced the transformational changes of American society and various moments of iconic history, Mrs. Tyson returned to Greenwood in 1976 to raise her family and establish herself as a beloved pillar of the community; and
WHEREAS, with Proverbs 31:10 virtuosity, Mrs. Tyson has been a faithful member of the Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church since returning home in 1976, after having first established her religious affiliation with the church by confessing her belief unto salvation in 1947 at age 12; and
WHEREAS, with her profound faith and the unyielding support of her family, "Aunt Johnnie" as she is tenderly referred, relies wholeheartedly on God as the driving force to sustain and motivate her through the circumstances, trials and triumphs of life, and leads an exemplary life, exuding the love of Christ through her service as a loyal member of the Greenwood Voters' League and the Leflore County Citywide Ushers, while imparting the values of self-assuredness, perseverance, service and benevolence obtained with her years of wisdom into the lives of all with whom she has encountered during her life and 22-year career with Greenwood Market Place; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life of such an outstanding individual as Mrs. Tyson, who attributes her longevity to good, clean, moral living and her faith in God, as she celebrates this most auspicious occasion with her family and friends, including her two grandchildren, Crystal Tyson and Frankie Barnes:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life of Mrs. Johnnie Mae Tyson, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of her birth on Monday, February 16, 2015, and express sincere wishes for continued health, joy, peace and prosperity for years to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Johnnie Mae Tyson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
