A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MRS. CAMILLE SCALES YOUNG UPON BEING SELECTED THE FIRST AFRICAN-AMERICAN FEMALE PRESIDENT OF THE MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY NATIONAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Camille Scales Young, Vice President of Cornerstone Government Affairs in Jackson, Mississippi, is being recognized upon being selected as the first African-American female president of the Mississippi State University National Alumni Association; and
WHEREAS, a native of Shannon, Mississippi, Mrs. Young was taught the importance of receiving an education and executing a strong work ethic by her loving parents, William and Patty Tucker; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from high school, Mrs. Young, who currently resides in Madison, Mississippi, attended Mississippi State University and earned a bachelors' degree in communication management in 1994, and a master's degree in agriculture and extension education in 1996; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Young, after graduating from college, was employed in several positions by Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation for five years, and during that time, she gained valuable experience on Capitol Hill by establishing relationships and providing support for the agricultural community, and she also held a position with the United States Department of Agriculture as an outreach and public affairs specialist; and
WHEREAS, before becoming vice president of Cornerstone Government Affairs and building upon her experiences with Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation and the United States Department of Agriculture, Mrs. Young made impressive contributions for ten years as a Government Affairs Representative with one of the top law firms in the state, Watkins Ludlum Winter & Stennis, P.A.; and
WHEREAS, during her vast career, Mrs. Young has worked for the state and federal legislative interests of clients as varied as an institution of higher learning, a major automotive manufacturer, associations that represent constituents in every county of the state and healthcare facilities; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Young, in addition to her capitol lobbying tasks, provides significant support to clients in areas of public relations and community relations; and
WHEREAS, due to her effectiveness in her various capacities, Mrs. Young was selected by Mississippi Governor, Haley Barbour, as a museum liaison for the recent Mississippi Civil Rights Museum project that joined public and private sponsors to launch the venture that will honor the state's history in the Civil Rights Movement; and
WHEREAS, in addition to serving as president of the Mississippi State University National Alumni Association, Mrs. Young is known for her community involvement as a sustaining member of the following: Junior League of Jackson, where she currently serves as the recording secretary of the Sustainers Board of Directors, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (Rho Lambda Omega Chapter) and the Mississippi 4-H Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Young, an active participant of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Madison, Mississippi, is also a past president of the New Hope Christian School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), and she is an active member of the PTOs of Madison Crossing Elementary School; and Germantown Middle School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Young has received several accolades due to her outstanding community service and professional accomplishments, some of which include the following: Mississippi Business Journal's Top 50 Business Women (2006), Top 40 Under 40 (2005) and being named the Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scout Council of Middle Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Young's impressive career accomplishments and community service as well as leadership makes her more than well-equipped as the 93rd president of the Mississippi State University National Alumni Association, which has nearly 124,000 living alumni who span across the globe; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Young has been lovingly supported throughout all of her endeavors by her parents; husband, Keith; three children, Amber, William and Kayla; sister, Emily; and in-laws, Ollie and Ruby Young; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Mississippi House of Representatives to acknowledge a deserving and talented pioneering spirit such as Mrs. Camille S. Young, whose career and history making accomplishments serves as a role model for all in this great state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Camille Scales Young upon being selected as the first female African American president of Mississippi State University National Alumni Association and wish her continued success in all of her endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Young and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
