House Resolution 16

A RESOLUTION TO AMEND HOUSE RULE 10, 2016-2020 RULES OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, TO AUTHORIZE THE DULY ELECTED MINORITY POLITICAL PARTY LEADER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO APPOINT MEMBERS OF THE MINORITY CAUCUS TO ALL COMMITTEES, EXCEPT THE RULES AND THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE.

     BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That House Rule 10 of the 2016-2020 Rules of the House of Representatives is amended as follows:

     10.  (1)  All committees, except the Rules Committee and the Management Committee, and except as otherwise provided in subsection (2) of this Rule 10 for the duly elected Minority Political Party leader shall be appointed by the Speaker unless otherwise specially directed by the House.

     (2)  The duly elected leader of the minority party shall appoint the following number of members to all committees, except the Rules Committee and the Management Committee:

          (a)  One, for committees with less than ten (10) members;

          (b)  Two, for committees with ten(10) or more members, but less than twenty (20) members; and

          (c)  Three, for committees with twenty (20) or more members.

     The number of committee members used to calculate appointments under this rule shall be governed by the "number of members" listed for Standing Committees under House Rule 60.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the amendment to House Rule 10 contained in this resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption of this resolution by the House of Representatives.
