A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MADISON CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL "JAGUARS" TENNIS TEAM AND HEAD COACH BRAD BOTELER UPON WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 7A STATE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Madison Central High School Tennis Team and Head Coach Brad Boteler completed their 2023-2024 season once again as state champions having been crowned the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 7A State Champions; and

     WHEREAS, notably, the Jaguars incredible win, as this was the first year there was a 7A classification within the MHSAA, was achieved after losing eight of the twelve starters from the 2023 team, which speaks to the talented roster of the team; and

     WHEREAS, the Madison Central High School Tennis Team is no stranger to being best in their class as they captured the 6A state championship in 2023, 2022, 2021, 2019, 2017 and 2016; and

     WHEREAS, members of the Madison Central High School 2023-2024 Varsity Tennis Team who have brought great pride to the Madison Public School District due to their incredible sportsmanship and talent are as follows:  on the girls team, Audrey Adams, Jianna Brown, Katie Farthing, Mary Claire Henderson, Kennedy Hutto, Emily Jia, Cella McKay, Claire McNeese, Mary Dogan Neely, Kirsten Norris, Kate Price, Caroline Touchet and Marianna Wright; and on the boys team, Khalid Alhalteh, Will Brown, Forrest Carson, Evans Henderson, Philip LeRoux, Mark Little, Harrison Lowe, Wes Noland, Taylor Parker, Ben Ramsey, Patrick Royals, Preston Royals, Reese Touchet, Spencer Wheatley and manager, Sam Reilly; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to winning the 2024 State Championship, members of the team dominated the 7A doubles and singles, and the following team members were crowned individual champions:  Kennedy Hutto won the girls singles, Taylor Parker won the boys singles, Harrison Lowe and Wes Noland won the boys doubles and Patrick Royals and Philip LeRoux were the boys doubles runners-up, which speaks to their hard work, dedication and superior play that they executed; and

     WHEREAS, this year the Madison Central Boys Tennis Team won the prestigious McGill-Toolen Invitational (with 64 teams) for the third year in a row, and the Madison Central Girls Tennis Team followed their 2023 runner-up finish with a third place finish in the same tournament this year; and

     WHEREAS, the Jaguars have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Brad Boteler, Assistant Coaches, David Boteler, Seth Male and Lexie Morgan - all of whom have broadened the team's knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, the Jaguars have also been supported by Toby Collums who is Madison Central's athletic director and Celeste Bramlett who is the assistant athletic director; and

     WHEREAS, Head Coach Brad Boteler has brought additional honor to himself and to Madison Central High School as he was named the Mississippi Association of Coaches Coach of the Year and the NFHS Southern Region Coach of the Year, and he was also named the MHSAA Coach of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, as a mark of superb coaching, during Coach Boteler's tenure, the Jaguars have won the state championship seven times, have been runners-up four times and have produced 20 individual champions, with winners in girls singles, boys singles, boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles; and

     WHEREAS, the Jaguars have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the induvial team members and their coaches and bring honor to the parents and supporters of the team and to Madison Central High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the achievement of superb student-athletes such as the Madison Central High School "Jaguars" Tennis Team, who have once again brought honor to the Madison Central community and to the State of Mississippi as a whole:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Madison Central High School "Jaguars" Tennis Team and Head Coach Brad Boteler upon winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 7A State Tennis Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Brad Boteler and to the members of the Capitol  Press Corps.
