A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED AND DEDICATED CAREER OF MR. JACK ALEXANDER AND ACKNOWLEDGING THE SERVICES HE HAS PROVIDED TO THE MISSISSIPPI FARM BUREAU FEDERATION FOR MORE THAN THREE DECADES UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, Jack Alexander, a natural "peoples' person" and essential bastion of operation and administration with the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, has announced his plans for retirement in May 2011, after having provided more than 35 years of quintessential services to farmers and agricultural enthusiasts and advocates throughout the state; and

     WHEREAS, a native of Yazoo County, where he was reared on a row crop and beef cattle farm, Jack's life's work has been agriculture, starting with his having spent his summer college breaks working on Dixie Farms at Satartia and selling chemicals for Champion Chemicals in Canton; and

     WHEREAS, after receiving his bachelor of science degree in agricultural engineering technology and business from Mississippi State University in 1968, Mr. Alexander began his professional career in his native Yazoo County with Mississippi Chemical Corporation, serving several years in plant management in Mississippi, Arkansas and Missouri facilities, before joining the sales force during his Missouri and Texas assignments; and

     WHEREAS, in 1975 Jack joined Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation as a district field representative, where he continued to display exemplary work ethic and his proven record of success and accountability which he has provided to farmers and agricultural enterprises in 33 counties as a regional manager before he was promoted to the post of statewide poultry commodity coordinator in 2006; and

     WHEREAS, quite the accomplished individual and highly esteemed for his knowledge of agricultural operations, innovative solutions and currency of trending developments, Mr. Alexander's career has been highlighted with the honor of numerous awards, recognitions, affiliations and memberships, including:  recipient of the Rankin County Soil and Water Conservation District "Conservationist of the Year" Award in 1992; service as President of the Mississippi State University College of Agriculture and Life Science Alumni Association in 1997; service on the Rankin County Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee for five years; service on the Curriculum Committee of the Agriculture Department at Hinds Community College for 12 years; service on the Planning Committee for the Smith/Jasper Beef and Poultry Expo for five years; service as a member of the United States Department of Agriculture Avian Influenza Response Committee; service as a member on the Mississippi Homeland Security Avian Influenza Task Force; and recipient of the 2010 Hinds County Farm Bureau's "Distinguished Service Award"; and

     WHEREAS, throughout his career, Jack, who has been supported in every professional transition and undertaking by his wife, Anne, and son, Brian, proudly declares that his greatest career accomplishment is the "lasting, treasured friendships I have made throughout the 82 counties of Mississippi"; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the consummate service of such a remarkable and dedicated individual as Mr. Alexander, whose career is a testament of an unbridled passion to serve and be of service:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the distinguished and dedicated career of Mr. Jack Alexander, acknowledge the services he has provided to the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation for more than three decades, and extend most sincere wishes for success and enjoyment in the lighter years of his life upon the occasion of his retirement.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Alexander, the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
