A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING PASS CHRISTIAN MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR RECOGNITION AS A 2012 NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL AWARD RECIPIENT BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.
WHEREAS, Pass Christian Middle School has been named a United States Department of Education 2012 National Blue Ribbon School, and it has become a place where students can acquire the advanced skills and knowledge they need to succeed in today's world; and
WHEREAS, Pass Christian Middle School's 2012 National Blue Ribbon School award recognizes the school's efforts to ensure that every child learns and no child is left behind in its demonstration of an exemplary high performing academic curriculum and student body; and
WHEREAS, as a national model of excellence from which others can take inspiration, Pass Christian Middle School is dedicated to the highest of standards for education, and upon receipt of this most prestigious honor, now joins its sister school Pass Christian High School, which received this most noteworthy recognition in 2005; and
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Education's "National Blue Ribbon School" distinguishes and honors schools as either "Exemplary High Performing," in which students achieve very high academic levels as determined by state assessments or nationally-normed tests, or as "Exemplary Improving," in which schools have at least 40% of its student population deriving from a disadvantaged background who make significant progress in closing the achievement gap; and
WHEREAS, as stated by United States Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, "Our nation has no greater responsibility than helping all children realize their full potential. Schools honored with the National Blue Ribbon Schools award are committed to accelerating student achievement and preparing students for success in college and careers. Their work reflects the conviction that every child has promise and that education is the surest pathway to a strong, secure future."; and
WHEREAS, as a National Blue Ribbon School, Pass Christian Middle School is one of approximately 269 public and private schools named by the United States Department of Education as a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School award recipient; and
WHEREAS, Pass Christian Middle School is a shining example of what teachers and students can achieve, and the continuing challenge is to help other schools follow their lead by using the knowledge gained to replicate effective strategies and help every student improve as it has been the number one school in the state with the highest QDI rating for the past five consecutive years; and
WHEREAS, the National Blue Ribbon School program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools that are either academically superior or demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement to high levels; and
WHEREAS, the 2012 winners were honored at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on November 12-13, 2012, in which the program inducted the year's honorees into an education hall of fame that, for the last 30 years, has acknowledged the academic accomplishments of nearly 7,000 American schools; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the special achievements of schools, such as Pass Christian Middle School, which has brought honor to its students, parents, teachers, community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Pass Christian Middle School for its recognition as a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School award recipient by the United States Department of Education and extend to the teachers and administrators of this school best wishes for future academic success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Pass Christian Middle School, the State Board of Education and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
