A RESOLUTION COMMENDING TOYOTA MOTOR ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING NORTH AMERICA AND TOYOTA MOTOR MANUFACTURING MISSISSIPPI UPON BEING NAMED THE UNITED STATES ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY'S STAR PARTNER OF THE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America (TEMA) and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi (Toyota Mississippi), one of the company's four model sustainability plants world-wide, is being recognized upon being named Toyota's most energy-efficient plant in North America; and

     WHEREAS, TEMA, which oversees the Japanese automaker's engineering design, development, R&D and manufacturing operation in North America, received the prestigious Energy Star Award for the ninth consecutive year; and

     WHEREAS, as an example of the company's superb energy conservation efforts, during the past decade it has helped save $370 million and cut energy use by 15% per vehicle it has produced, which is enough to power 27,000 average households; and

     WHEREAS, more specifically, the outstanding Blue Springs plant uses innovative design and best practice techniques in its paint shop by utilizing a unique system that eliminates the need for a paint oven and instead uses a low-pressure adiabatic humidification system; and

     WHEREAS, also, overall, all of Toyota's North American plants, which includes Toyota Mississippi, have retrofitted their lighting to save 17 million kilowatt hours annually, which is enough to power 1,500 average households and eliminates 10,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions; and

     WHEREAS, Toyota Mississippi, which assembles the popular  Corolla compact sedan, in addition to making great strides in energy conservation, is also a driving economic force due to its employment of more than 2,000 workers with another 2,000 employed by its suppliers; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize great industries such as Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi for its outstanding contributions to protecting the environment though superior energy efficiency:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America and Toyota Mississippi upon being named the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star Partner of the Year and wish them continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
