A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND HONORING THE MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF TONY BROWN AND THE INSPIRATIONAL ROLE HE PLAYED IN THE LIVES OF EACH OF HIS FOOTBALL PLAYERS AND STUDENTS.
WHEREAS, East Central High School senior running back Tony Brown has served as a distinguished student athlete throughout his illustrious high school football career of demonstrating unmitigated athletic prowess dedicated service to the schools in Mississippi as a remarkable football coach; and
WHEREAS, since donning his uniform as a varsity level Hornet at East Central High School, Tony, who has amassed an impressive statistical record, holds the school rushing and scoring records while also ranking in the top ten for the state in rushing and scoring with: 6,105 career total rushing yards, for a sixth place all-time statewide ranking; 92 career touchdowns, for a ninth place all-time statewide ranking; 3,307 single-season total rushing yards, for a second place all-time statewide ranking; and 47 single-season rushing touchdowns, for a second place all-time statewide ranking; and
WHEREAS, because of his game-changing plays and brilliant strategic mind, Tony was able to broaden the Hornets' knowledge of the game and refine their skills in execution while creating a legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship, which compelled his Hornets team to a 13-1 season, its first District Championship in 24 years, a South State Championship and its first ever appearance in a State Championship game; and
WHEREAS, Tony's incomparable leadership and expert command of the game is evidenced in more than just the success of wins in the record books, as he engrained moral integrity and discipline into each of his fellow high caliber teammates, and for his efforts, he was Gatorade Player of the Year for the State of Mississippi; USA Today Offensive Player of the Year for the State of Mississippi; USA Today Offensive 2nd Team All-American selection; The Mississippi Association of Coaches Class 4A Offensive Player of the Year; The Clarion Ledger All-State Team selection; Bernard-Blackwell North/South All-Star Game selection; WLOX Offensive Player of the Year; The Sun Herald All-South Mississippi Team selection; The Sun Herald Player of the Year; Region 8-4A All-District Team selection; and Region 8-4A Offensive MVP; and
WHEREAS, East Central High School has truly benefitted from the unrivaled skill and competence Tony provided to the Hornets' football program, as success from the fields and tales of his accomplishments will forever echo throughout the halls and across the bleachers with the beginning of each school's new season; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the accomplishments of student athletes, especially those such as Tony Brown, who continuously demonstrates the qualities and characteristics to become great collegiate and professional athletes:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and honor the many accomplishments of Tony Brown and the inspirational role he played in the remarkable 2017 football season experienced by the East Central High School Hornets Football Team, and express deepest wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Tony Brown and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
