A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE, LEGACY AND SERVICE OF MRS. JACKIE EATON COLEMAN AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackie Eaton Coleman, the daughter of Mr. Donnell and Mrs. Omeria Eaton, born July 19, 1942, in the Kelly Settlement Community of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, departed this earthly life to enter into eternal rest with her Heavenly Father, rendering great sorrow and loss to her family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, having accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior early in life, and exercising her gifts and talents in the service of the Lord, Mrs. Coleman studied to show herself approved, attending Earl Travillion Attendance Center and graduating from the Bay Springs Vocational High School, and subsequent thereto, undertaking baccalaureate studies at Mississippi Valley State University and career-technical studies at Moore Career College; and

     WHEREAS, a natural nurturer and proponent of early childhood learning and development, Mrs. Coleman influenced the lives of countless children from birth to preschool for more than 38 years, and shared her passion for early childhood learning and development with families throughout the community as director of several daycare centers; and

     WHEREAS, living her life in accordance with the season, time and purpose of the ecclesiastical prescription, Mrs. Coleman's time to purpose love was birthed when her life intersected with the life of Otis Charles Coleman, and the two enjoyed a joyful marriage and family life with their three children until it was purposed by God to call her life companion from labor to rest; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Coleman's passion for children and senior citizens was evident in every aspect of her life, which enabled her to be vested with the rare and quality personality, which rarely afforded her the opportunity of meeting a stranger, as evidenced through her work as Youth Director of Pineview Presbyterian Church and as resident assistant at the Loyalton Retirement Community; and

     WHEREAS, with a love for others synonymous with Christ's love for the church, Mrs. Coleman was steadfast in her zealous commitment to those under her instruction and supervision, and premised her life, career and service on the motto:  "If I can help somebody as I pass along the way, then my living shall not be in vain."; and

     WHEREAS, additionally Mrs. Coleman was supportive of many other community and service involvements throughout her life, particularly the need for social and political change, as she strived to effectuate positive change through her involvement in local politics; and

     WHEREAS, though she has traversed life's rising and falling rivers of joy and sorrow, triumph and tribulation, success and set back, the legacy of her memory and the spirit with which she embraced life will always remain in the hearts and minds of her survivors:  daughters, Pamela Coleman, Michelle Coleman and Melissa Coleman-Hopkins; grandchildren, Nadia Coleman-Hopkins, Alexandria Farrington and Chase Hopkins; and a host of other relatives and friends; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life of such a matchless giving individual as Mrs. Coleman, whose life served as a testament of service for the betterment of the lives of others:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life, legacy and service of Mrs. Jackie Eaton Coleman and express deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Coleman and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
