A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE WEST LAUDERDALE KNIGHTS BOYS GOLF TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2022 MHSAA CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, it was a magical year for the West Lauderdale High School Knights Boys as the team completed the 2022 season on the green and fairways as the 2022 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 4A State Champions; and
WHEREAS, consisting of 10 members, the Knights' top six golfers' lowest average match scores from the season were chosen to participate in district and state tournaments, where their drive and finesse off the tee continued to propel the team's success; and
WHEREAS, having competed in 11 golf tournaments during the season, the Knights won 10 of those matches, which also encompassed the MHSAA Class 4A District and State Championships, which the team drove, putted, chipped, birdied and eagled their way to lay claim to the titles as District and State Champions; and
WHEREAS, while the MHSAA Class 4A State Championship tournament consisted of 78 golfers from across the state, West Lauderdale's six golfers placed in the top 25 of the state tournament's players; and
WHEREAS, in keeping the tradition of the Knights' record of excellence on track, Will Thompson received the Low Medalist award for the state tournament, making it his second consecutive honor after having previously won the honor in the 2021 season; and
WHEREAS, the Knights were driven by more than just the yearning to succeed, and they intensely amplified all of their hard work and motivation, which were so apparent throughout the entire season, for the championship title, which is attributed to a combination of superb coaching, a broadened knowledge of the sport, precision refinement of their skills in execution, and they have established and continue to build upon a legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship, forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize this special group of student-athletes who reached the pinnacle of high school golf and have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the West Lauderdale Knights Boy's Golf Team for winning the 2022 MHSAA Class 4A State Championship, and extend to the athletes and coaches our best wishes for continued success in all their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the principal of West Lauderdale High School, on behalf of the team, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
