A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CITY OF WATER VALLEY ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT, THE TALLAHATCHIE VALLEY ELECTRIC POWER ASSOCIATION AND THE TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY FOR THEIR TIRELESS EFFORTS IN ENSURING THAT POWER WAS RESTORED TO THE CITY OF WATER VALLEY AFTER THE OUTAGE ON JANUARY 11, 2022.

     WHEREAS, on January 11, 2022, the City of Water Valley was terrorized by a power outage that began at 4:00 a.m. and lasted throughout the day, causing disruptions and chaos for the residents and businesses in the community; and

     WHEREAS, the City of Water Valley Electric Department, the Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association and the Tennessee Valley Authority demonstrated untiring commitment, diligence and service to its customer base by restoring power in an efficient and prompt manner after the terrible outage; and

     WHEREAS, the members of the City of Water Valley Electric Department, who were unflinching in their efforts to restore power, include Andy Hall, the Superintendent of the City of Water Valley Electric Department, Brandon Richardson, Michael Richardson and Robbie Leard; and

     WHEREAS, the members of the Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association, including James Taylor, Adam Boyle, Jacob Norman, Brandon Green, Michael Johnson, Kaleb Foshee, Justin Palmertree, Keith Uselton, Taylor Brown, Kerry Davis, Josh Strickland, Patrick Hamilton and Derek Cobern played a huge role in restoring the electricity to Water Valley; and

     WHEREAS, the engineers and officials of the Tennessee Valley Authority, who provided unparalleled assistance to the City of Water Valley and continue to help the city with their electrical needs, include Kris Greer, Dane Harrington, Ashton Waldrop, Art Pannell, Jason Sides, Jason Ortner, Joey Samples, Mike Franks, Brad Davis, Millard Thrasher, Craig Robinson, Victoria Shanks, Brian Ramels, Tanner Hopkins, Derek McGill, John Hutchins and Matt Schebler; and

     WHEREAS, each person employed by the City of Water Valley Electric Department, the Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association and the Tennessee Valley Authority went above and beyond their call of duty to ensure that Water Valley, Mississippi, residents, hospitals, industries and other businesses had their power restored as quickly as possible; and

     WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Water Valley will never forget the immediate response and continued dedication of the City of Water Valley Electric Department, the Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association and the Tennessee Valley Authority following this power outage, and these extraordinary individuals that comprise each department, association and authority merit a special measure of commendation for their commitment to the people of Mississippi in our time of need; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the City of Water Valley Electric Department, the Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association and the Tennessee Valley Authority for their excellent work in restoring power to the citizens of Water Valley, Mississippi, during such a trying time in this great city's history:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the City of Water Valley Electric Department, the Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association and the Tennessee Valley Authority for their tireless efforts in ensuring that power was restored to the City of Water Valley after the outage on January 11, 2022, and express appreciation to these groups for their remarkable assistance to their fellow citizens in a great time of need.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the City of Water Valley Electric Department, the Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association and the Tennessee Valley Authority and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
