A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING CHANCELLOR AND RETIRED MAJOR GENERAL TERRILL MOFFETT UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS CHANCELLOR.
WHEREAS, Chancellor Terrill K. ("T.K.") Moffett, a retired Major General in the United States Army, is retiring after being appointed chancellor for the First Chancery Circuit Court District in January 2016; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from Amory High School, Chancellor Moffett earned a bachelor of science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1971, a master of arts from the University of Hawaii in 1979, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1979, and a National Security Fellowship from Harvard University in 1996; and
WHEREAS, Chancellor Moffett's 37 years of heroic and patriotic service in the United States Army include assignments with the 25th Infantry Division, the 155th Armored Brigade and the 66th Troop Command of the Mississippi National Guard; and
WHEREAS, filled with copious amounts of pluck and grit, he mobilized with the 155th Armored Brigade for Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm and with the 91st Division for Operation Enduring Freedom; and
WHEREAS, for his courage and dedication, retired Major General Moffett has received the Mississippi Commendation Medal, the Mississippi Magnolia Medal, the Mississippi Magnolia Cross, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Legion of Merit and the Army Distinguished Service Medal; and
WHEREAS, Chancellor Moffett served as city prosecutor in Tupelo, Mississippi, for 10 years, as an adjunct professor at various colleges, where he taught the Mississippi Rules of Civil Procedure, American government and political science, and founded the Moffett Leadership Institute, through which he has conducted leadership and ethics training in the United States, Nigeria, Rwanda and Uganda; and
WHEREAS, throughout his career, Chancellor Moffett has received unwavering support from his wife, Rita, and his daughter, Tara Leigh Dowden, who is married to Dr. Landon Dowden, and in his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, Arabella, Adalaide, Adoniram and Alastair, and serving as deacon at First Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor those Mississippians who have sacrificed so much in the service of their country, especially those such as Chancellor and retired Major General Terrill Moffett, whose dedication to his career as chancellor as well as his military career brings great pride to his friends, family and the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Chancellor and retired Major General Terrill Moffett upon the occasion of his retirement as chancellor, and extend best wishes for continued success in his lighter years ahead.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Chancellor Terrill Moffett and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
