A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MCCOMB HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS TRACK TEAM, HEAD COACH MARK LANG AND ASSISTANT COACHES JIMMIE BUTLER AND FRAN KALUSCHE, FOR WINNING THE 2008 AND 2009 CLASS 4A GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

     WHEREAS, the McComb High School Girls Track Team finished the 2008 and 2009 seasons with back-to-back 4A State Championships; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers had two consecutive victorious seasons of track and field events, and their achievement is not attributable to any one individual team member, but is shared by all members of the McComb team; and

     WHEREAS, in order to compete for both the 2008 and 2009 4A State Championship, the McComb High School Girls Track Team had to be perfect and win the Division 6-4A Championships, then the Region 3-4A Championships and finally the 4A South State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the McComb High School Lady Tiger Track and Field Team has developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their actions and attitudes reflect greatness both in the individual athletes and their coaches, bringing honor to McComb High School; and

     WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various members of the Lady Tigers in recognition of their time and dedicated work during the 2008 and 2009 seasons, including 15 first place gold medals at the State Track and Field Meet, going to Takensha Beecham, Latonja Bonds, Brittany Harrell, Kealra Patterson and Thomeisha Swington; and

     WHEREAS, two Magnolia State records were set at the 2009 State Track and Field Meet by Brittany Harrell; and

     WHEREAS, beyond setting state records, Ms. Harrell was All-State in 2008 and 2009 and also runner-up to the Pop-Star Award in 2009; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Mark Lang and Assistant Coaches Jimmie Butler and Fran Kalusche, who have broadened the Tigers' knowledge of the sport and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, Head Coach Mark Lang and Assistant Coaches Jimmie Butler and Fran Kalusche, strive to continue the legacy of superior athleticism and true sportsmanship in their ability to produce high caliber track and field athletes, as evidenced by the team's successful seasons and winning back-to-back track championship titles; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend and congratulate those teams, such as the McComb High School Girls Track Team, who achieve excellence in their sport, and those coaches, such as Head Coach Mark Lang and Assistant Coaches Jimmie Butler and Fran Kalusche, who serve as role models for the youth of the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby acknowledge, commend and congratulate the McComb High School Girls Track Team and their coaches, Mark Lang, Jimmie Butler and Fran Kalusche, for winning the 2008 and 2009 Class 4A Girls Track and Field State Championships and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to McComb High School Girls Track Team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
