A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING LA'PORSHA RENAE UPON PLACING SECOND ON SEASON 15 OF "AMERICAN IDOL."

     WHEREAS, on April 7, 2016, Ms. La'Porsha Renae, from McComb, Mississippi, earned second place while competing on "American Idol's" finale episode of its 15th and final season; and

     WHEREAS, "American Idol's" final episode began with fellow Mississippians and fellow finalists La'Porsha Renae and Trent Harmon, performing "It Takes Two," a tribute to the show's original beginnings in 2002; and

     WHEREAS, the star-studded series finale highlighted the show's 15-year legacy, Idol alums from Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia Barrino, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard to season 11 top 5 finisher and Brandon, Mississippi, native Skylar Laine all made spectacular performance appearances, even among the show's champions La'Porsha's voice is a true gift to behold, her heart and soul seem to pour from her throat, mesmerizing her audiences with its beauty and depth; and

     WHEREAS, performing brilliantly, La'Porsha's vocal talent left her audiences in awe at every turn, from her second round performance of "A House is Not a Home" to her performance of "Diamonds" La'Porsha left audience members and judges wanting and needing more; and

     WHEREAS, La'Porsha earned her golden ticket to Hollywood, California, in the first round of auditions with her young daughter Nayale by her side, singing her own version of Radiohead's hit song "Creep," although the young Nayale could not be present for her mother's final performance on "American Idol", mother and daughter now have a bright future ahead, with many more spectacular shows to come, where Nayale can cheer on her favorite singer, who is also her loving mother; and

     WHEREAS, finishing in second place, outperforming thousands of applicants, La'Porsha earned a singing contract with the Universal Music Group, singing with Big Machine/Motown Records, her dream of professional stardom is now a reality; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to share in the enthusiasm of citizens of this state as they achieve outstanding accolades and successes, both on the local and national stage, like that of La'Porsha Renae, whose exceptional performance on "American Idol" has brought great pride to her family, her community and The State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. La'Porsha Renae upon her many outstanding performances on "American Idol," and finishing in second place overall in the competition, and extend best wishes for success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to La'Porsha Renae and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
