A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MS. MADI KATE VUNCANNON OF WALNUT HIGH SCHOOL FOR BEING NAMED MISSISSIPPI CLASS 2A MISS BASKETBALL.

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi High School Activities Association  and the Mississippi Association of Coaches announced that Walnut High School star, Ms. Madi Kate Vuncannon, was named the inaugural Mississippi Class 2A Miss Basketball, a truly outstanding accomplishment; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Vuncannon, a senior guard for the Walnut High School Lady Wildcats (16-14), has been instrumental to her team's success, having a team-high 27 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals as the Lady Wildcats defeated Coahoma County High School 76-39 in the first round of the state playoffs, and she has averaged 23.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 4.4 steals per game, and helped Walnut advance to the Class 2A-Region 1 championship and a 16-14 record; and

     WHEREAS, the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards are sponsored by C-Spire, and the winners were voted on by a panel of media members and coaches from every corner of the state; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the athletic excellence of Mississippi student-athletes, especially that displayed by Ms. Vuncannon, who has brought honor to Walnut High School and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Madi Kate Vuncannon for being named Mississippi Class 2A Miss Basketball, and extend best wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Madi Kate Vuncannon and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
