A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE COPIAH-LINCOLN COMMUNITY COLLEGE WOLFPACK FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2012 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY AND JUNIOR COLLEGES STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolfpack Football Team finished the 2012 regular season with a remarkable record of nine wins and three losses in a year that culminated with the squad defeating nationally ranked No. 6 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College by a score of 41 to 37 in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Championship Game in Perkinston, Mississippi, on November 10, 2012; and
WHEREAS, before capturing Co-Lin's first MACJC State Championship since 1985, the Wolfpack football team clenched a close win in the MACJC semifinals on November 3, 2012, in Scooba, Mississippi, over the 2011 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Champion and nationally ranked No. 11 East Mississippi Community College Lions in a nail-biting contest that ended with a hard-fought final score of 47 to 46; and
WHEREAS, the outstanding performance by the Wolfpack in the 2012 season earned the team an invitation to compete against Garden City Community College from Kansas in the fifth annual Mississippi Bowl held in Biloxi, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, several members of the Wolfpack football team have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and superior play in 2012, including quarterback Chandler Rogers being named Co-Lin's Most Valuable Offensive Player and defensive end Jerrell Jordan being named Co-Lin's Most Valuable Defensive Player in the Mississippi Bowl, as well as wide receiver Joe Craig, Jr., being named Mississippi Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young adults of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolfpack Football Team and Head Coach Glenn Davis for their outstanding 2012 season and for winning the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Championship and extend to the individual members and coaches of the team best wishes for success in all of their future academic and athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolfpack Football Team, Head Coach Glenn Davis and President Dr. Ronnie Nettles and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
