A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING STEPHANIE PARSONS ON BEING AWARDED THE GOLD AWARD BY THE GIRL SCOUTS OF AMERICA IN TISHOMINGO, MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Stephanie Parsons will be awarded the Gold Award by the Girl Scouts of America, in Tishomingo, Mississippi, the absolute highest honor a young girl scout can achieve and a true testament to her illustrious dedication to her community; and

     WHEREAS, to earn the prestigious Girl Scouts Gold Award, a young scout must be in 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grades, be a registered Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador, have completed two Senior or Ambassador Journeys or have earned the Girl Scout Silver Award and completed one Journey; and

     WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts Gold Award challenges girls to identify a community issue that she cares about, investigate the issue thoroughly, form a team to support her efforts, identify the root cause of the issue and then create a plan to tackle it, submit the project proposal for approval, lead her team and carry out the plan and then educate and inspire others to follow in her footsteps; and

     WHEREAS, Stephanie, a 2016 graduate of Tishomingo County High School, noticed that middle school students were not being informed of the various clubs, resources, extracurriculars and other activities that are available to them once they cross the threshold into high school; and

     WHEREAS, to qualify for the Gold Award and begin her project, which she called The Academic How-To's of High School, Stephanie formed a team, created a plan and then tackled that plan in superb fashion, as she created an information packet of what to expect when one gets to high school and presented it to the middle school students; and

     WHEREAS, Stephanie's packets will live on long past her graduation date, as the middle school counselors will continue to provide this information to parents while also conducting presentations to 8th graders each year; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the best and brightest of Mississippi's youth, especially those such as Stephanie Parsons, who has attained scouting's highest rank, and in doing so, brought honor to her family, school, community and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Stephanie Parsons on being awarded the Gold Award by the Girl Scouts of America in Tishomingo, Mississippi, and extend sincere wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Stephanie Parsons and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
