A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITY COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM UPON COMPLETING AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.

WHEREAS, the Northeast Mississippi Community College Men's Basketball Team completed an excellent 18-win season on their way to winning the school's sixth National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Championship and earning the school's eighth trip to the NJCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Tournament; and

WHEREAS, over the course of their remarkable season, the Northeast Tigers were nearly unbeatable inside the confines of Bonner Arnold Coliseum, amassing a 11-2 home record; and

WHEREAS, leading the Tigers, Head Coach Cord Wright earned both the NJCAA Region 23 and NJCAA District 15 Coach of the Year in only his third season as head coach for the Northeast Mississippi Tigers; and

WHEREAS, the Tigers talented roster includes: Frank Roberts, Tray Lawson, Leroy Buchanan, Kendarius Smith, Dashiell Franklin, Desmin Harris, Chase Carroll, Antonio Dodson, Jack Nichols, Wesley Harris, Raheem Sorrell and Kendall Stafford; and

WHEREAS, several Tigers distinguished themselves by earning individual honors: Wesley Harris earned distinction as a member of the All-Region 23 Tournament Team, the All-Region 23 and All-State first team; Leroy Buchanan earned a place on the All-Region 23 Tournament Team and the All-State second team; and Raheem Sorrell and Jack Nichols earned positions in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges All-Star Game; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the achievements of student athletes such as the Northeast Mississippi Community College Men's Basketball Team who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Northeast Mississippi Community College Men's Basketball Team for completing an outstanding season, winning the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Championship, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Cord Wright, Northeast Mississippi Community College Athletic Director Kent Farris and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
