A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED WORK OF THE YAZOO-MISSISSIPPI DELTA LEVEE BOARD IN PROVIDING IN-KIND SERVICES FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF PONDS FOR THE NORTH MISSISSIPPI FISH HATCHERY AT ENID DAM AND THE ROSS BARNETT RESERVOIR.
WHEREAS, the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee District was created, and the Board of Levee Commissioners for the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta was charted by Chapter 164, Laws of 1884, and recognized and continued under Article 11, Sections 227-239, Mississippi Constitution of 1890; and
WHEREAS, the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee District's commitment and the exceptional work by its dedicated personnel were vital to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks in its development of the North Mississippi Fish Hatchery, which will benefit the State of Mississippi and its citizens for many years to come; and
WHEREAS, the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board provided in-kind services to the department through the construction of ponds as part of the North Mississippi Fish Hatchery at Enid Dam; and
WHEREAS, the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board has supported equally its task and the department in fulfilling its mission, and particularly, the works of the department in conserving Mississippi's natural resources and wildlife; and
WHEREAS, although the purpose and mission of the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board have not changed since its creation in 1884, the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board recognizes and understands that its flood control projects and works should be performed with due regard to the protection of the Magnolia State's citizens, environment, resources, wildlife and habitat; and
WHEREAS, the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee District is comprised of all or part of ten counties, including: Coahoma, DeSoto, Holmes, Humphreys, Leflore, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tunica, and Yazoo Counties, and, for the past 126 years, the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board and its dedicated personnel have labored tirelessly in every endeavor to fulfill its mission to protect persons and property in the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee District from loss and destruction resulting from the high waters of the Mississippi River; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the tireless efforts of a government entity that has brought honor to its role in the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and express our appreciation to the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board and its dedicated personnel for its outstanding and dedicated work at the North Mississippi Fish Hatchery and its efforts to lend assistance to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and to other state agencies, political subdivisions and citizens of the State of Mississippi.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
