A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING BRIANA ARIELLE DIXON, OF OCEAN SPRINGS, MISSISSIPPI, ON HER DEBUTANTE DEBUT THROUGH THE ORIGINAL ILLINOIS CLUB, INC., AND FOR HER MANY OTHER SIGNIFICANT ACADEMIC AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACHIEVEMENTS.

     WHEREAS, Briana Arielle Dixon, an Ocean Springs High School student, will make her debutante debut on January 21, 2012, through the Original Illinois Club, Inc.; and

     WHEREAS, the Original Illinois Club, Inc., is a prestigious organization, only accepting young ladies with outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements; and

     WHEREAS, Miss Dixon is a remarkable student, currently holding a 3.3 GPA, scoring a 30 on her ACT, and a 1270 on her SAT; and

     WHEREAS, a volunteer for organizations such as the Walter Anderson Players and the Pink Pearl Youth Service Group, through which she formed the Keep Empowering Youth Project to help empower young people and provide social media outlets to help today's youth make informed decisions; and

     WHEREAS, a participant in various organizations including Advocates for Youth, the Reject All Tobacco Coastal Team, Model United Nations, the Native American Alliance, the Bookends Book Club, K.N.S. Theatre and the Ocean Springs High School Drama Department; and

     WHEREAS, Miss Dixon has been recognized academically as a National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist, a National Achievement Scholar Semi-Finalist, a member of the International Thespian Society, a member of the National Honor Society and an International Baccalaureate Program Scholar; and

     WHEREAS, as an accomplished youth, Miss Dixon is a published playwright, a talented dancer, a fluent Spanish-speaker and a young orator, having presented speeches at World Aids Day and through Youth Advocate training; and

     WHEREAS, Miss Dixon broadened her worldview at a young age through her participation in the People to People Student Ambassador Program, traveling the world and gaining great personal realizations of the social and economic differences around the world; and

     WHEREAS, desiring to turn her love of social media, social activism and theatre into a productive career, Miss Dixon hopes that her education and talents will facilitate a platform by which others may enhance their own lives and the world in which they live; and

     WHEREAS, Miss Dixon already has so many outstanding accomplishments in academics and numerous extracurricular activities, and she appears to be destined to achieve many more great things and become a leader of the future; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend excellence, especially when evidenced by young Mississippians such as Miss Dixon, whose many outstanding achievements both inside and outside the classroom bring honor to herself, her family, her school and her community:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Brianna Arielle Dixon on her debutante debut through the Original Illinois Club, Inc., on her numerous academic and extracurricular activities, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Dixon, the Original Illinois Club, Inc., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
