A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING HEAD COACH JOHNNY AINSWORTH UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM GREENE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL AFTER 20 YEARS OF COACHING THE WILDCATS.
WHEREAS, after a 20-year career as the Head Coach of the Greene County High School Wildcats and a 36-year coaching career, Johnny Ainsworth will be retiring at the end of the school year, leaving with a winning record and a legacy of incredible coaching; and
WHEREAS, prior to Ainsworth's arrival at the school in 1997, GCHS had suffered from inconsistency under many different coaches and under his leadership GCHS turned that around, posting a winning season that included a 38-13 win over North Hancock in the 1997 Shrimp Bowl; and
WHEREAS, after arriving at a post-season bowl game in his first season at GCHS, Ainsworth's teams were regularly among the state's most successful, and beginning in 1999, GCHS made 15 straight appearances in the MHSAA State Playoffs, with his 2014 Wildcats Team winning the 3A title; and
WHEREAS, overall, Ainsworth retires with a 145-95 record at GCHS, and in recognition of his outstanding career, the school honored Coach Ainsworth with the dedication of the football field in his honor; and
WHEREAS, in addition to coaching at GCHS, Ainsworth also spent time as head coach at Clara in the 1980s where he posted an undefeated season; and
WHEREAS, even though someone will have to replace Ainsworth as head coach, it is without a doubt that whoever gets the job will have big shoes to fill; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize the careers of great coaches who help shape the youth of our state, such as Johnny Ainsworth, whose accomplishments on and off the field brings great pride to Greene County High School and the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the career of Johnny Ainsworth upon the occasion of his retirement, and extend best wishes for continued success in the lighter years of his retirement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Greene County High School, Head Coach Johnny Ainsworth and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
