House Concurrent Resolution 93

(As Adopted by House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION HEREINAFTER DESIGNATING THE FIRST MONDAY OF APRIL AS LAW ENFORCEMENT APPRECIATION DAY IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, our many proud men and women law enforcement officers, whose service and sacrifice to protect our communities and safeguard our democracy, provide a vital public service to the citizens of the State of Mississippi through the fulfillment of their mission to serve and to protect; and

WHEREAS, all Mississippians benefit from the noble efforts of these men and women who have committed themselves to assisting others, and each of us has a greater sense of security knowing that law enforcement officers are ready and willing to answer any call, no matter how great or small; and

WHEREAS, while the potential dangers of each incident are undeterminable and unknown when the dispatcher comes over the airways, Mississippi's law enforcement officers demonstrate the highest level of public service, both through their courage and their commitment to the highest standards of professionalism; and

WHEREAS, in these dangerous and uncertain times, the job of a law enforcement officer has become a critical and potentially perilous occupation that can only be taken on by individuals with the utmost regard for the safety of themselves and others; and

WHEREAS, as a state, it is necessary to commit to honor those who daily risk the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities safe and, each April, we memorialize the law enforcement officers who have fallen in the line of duty by paying respect to their memory, and honor and pay respect to the men and women who continue to serve our state's citizens; and

WHEREAS, this occasion also provides our elected leaders an opportunity to celebrate the day-to-day heroism of all law enforcement officers across the State of Mississippi, as all Mississippians join to express gratitude to these remarkable men and women:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereinafter designate the first Monday of April as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day throughout the State of Mississippi, encourage all of its citizens to recognize its observance and extend heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the law enforcement officers who so selflessly dedicate their lives to the service of a public whom they do not know.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of the resolution be furnished to the Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
