A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING CAPTAIN KENNY BARHANOVICH UPON RECEIVING THE INTERNATIONAL GAME FISH ASSOCIATION'S 2016 LEGENDARY CAPTAINS AND CREW AWARD.
WHEREAS, on February 13, 2016, the International Game Fish Association Hall of Fame and Museum honored Captain Kenny Barhanovich with the Legendary Captains and Crew Award, recognizing his outstanding career as a charter boat captain and exceptional angler; and
WHEREAS, in order to be considered for this distinct honor, a captain must provide leadership in their trade and make meaningful contributions to the sport of recreational angling over an extended period of time; nominees must also demonstrate that he or she has espoused the ethical angling standards of the IGFA founders; and
WHEREAS, born and raised in Biloxi, Mississippi, Captain Barhanovich grew up surrounded by water, when at 14 years old he became the First Mate on his father's trawler, the President Kennedy; for six years they built their business and they changed the boat's name to the Miss Hospitality, where "fish-n-fun" was the motto and signature catch phrase for 40 years, and in that time they worked hard providing guests with excellent expertise and many great fishing opportunities; and
WHEREAS, over the course of his career, Captain Barhanovich overcame many challenges, including numerous hurricanes and the death of his father, but through the many difficult times he continually returned to the water, where he enjoys sharing his love for game fishing with fellow Mississippians and the state's many visitors; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and honor the accomplishments of individuals like Captain Barhanovich, whose hard work and commitment as a charter boat captain has improved game fishing and brought honor to his community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Captain Kenny Barhanovich upon earning the distinction of the International Game Fish Association's Legendary Captains and Crew Award, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Captain Kenny Barhanovich and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
