A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MINISTERIAL SERVICE, LEADERSHIP AND SPIRITUAL EXCELLENCE OF BISHOP JONATHAN TATE, SR., ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 50TH ANNIVERSARY AS PASTOR OF ANOINTED TEMPLE APOSTOLIC OVERCOMING HOLY CHURCH OF GOD.

WHEREAS, Bishop Jonathan Tate, Sr., Pastor and overseer of Anointed Temple Apostolic Overcoming Holy Church of God in Gulfport, Mississippi, began his ministerial career when he emerged among the ranks of elder under the guidance of the late Bishop W.T. Phillips, founder of the Apostolic Overcoming Holy Church of God; and

WHEREAS, with five decades of spiritual excellence due his honor, Bishop Tate has provided a level of religious leadership in his congregation and his regional district consisting of Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas, which serve as examples to the entire citizenry of the State of Mississippi of what is best in the human spirit when rooted in the belief and faith in God; and

WHEREAS, as a pastor, he has unbiased love and encourages Christians to stand up and be counted for Christ, being the very epitome of a man of God who holds to his convictions, and keeps sacred things sacred, as he is unselfish and holds fast to his integrity, walking by faith and not by sight; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Tate's ministry, like David's, seeks the very heart of God, and in his effort to lead as many souls to Christ under the auspices of that philosophy, he serves as the Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas Diocese Bishop under A.O.H. Presiding Prelate, Bishop G.W. Ayers; and

WHEREAS, men of faith such as Bishop Tate are rare in these times of social and moral decline in America but nevertheless serve to uphold everything that is good and right about a country that has its very founding premise upon spiritual foundation in God as the sovereign deity; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Tate, who has given extraordinary and dedicated leadership to Anointed Temple A.O.H. Church of God for 50 years, has been lovingly supported in all of his endeavors by his faithful wife of 56 years, Mother Shirley Tate, who has worked beside him, faithfully, along with their seven children, 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, a certified counselor possessing a master of theology degree, Bishop Tate is considered a notable spiritual leader in South Mississippi by government, church and civic leaders, and he has received numerous honors from organizations such as the NAACP, the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce, a special Bishop's Award given to him by the late Bishop Jasper Roby and he has been featured in a long-running commercial for a local bank; and

WHEREAS, known as the "Remnant Preacher of the Old Path," Bishop Tate's prosperity and longevity is the direct result of the characteristics he demonstrates in love, humility, faithfulness and dedication to God; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize such outstanding Godly leaders as Bishop Tate, who has dedicated his long and distinguished career to bringing many souls to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Bishop Jonathan Tate, Sr., on the occasion of his 50th anniversary celebration as Pastor of Anointed Temple Apostolic Overcoming Holy Church of God and extend heartiest wishes for God's continuous blessings and success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Bishop Tate and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
