A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GULFPORT HIGH SCHOOL QUIZ BOWL TEAM UPON WINNING THE 2010 MISSISSIPPI STATE QUIZ BOWL.

WHEREAS, on February 2, 2010, the Gulfport High School Quiz Bowl Team won the 2010 Mississippi State Quiz Bowl at Mississippi College; and

WHEREAS, en route to the 2010 Mississippi State Quiz Bowl, the team won competitions against the Magnolia State's finest quiz bowlers; and

WHEREAS, the 2010 Quiz Bowl competitions were held at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi, and there were six grueling rounds where Gulfport High School came away with victory, starting on October 28, 2009, vs. Central Private, then on November 10, vs. Nanih Waiya, next on January 12, vs. Presbyterian Christian, subsequently on January 26, vs. Ridgeland High School, followed by the semi-finals on February 2, vs. Jackson Preparatory School, and the finals on the same day vs. Clinton High School; and

WHEREAS, turning young students into adults, the Gulfport High School Quiz Bowl Team program's future is bright with Coach Kandy Elmore at the helm; and

WHEREAS, through hours of hard work and preparation and with support from the community, the Gulfport High School Quiz Bowl Team has earned a reputation for excellence, courage and precision; and

WHEREAS, Coach Kandy Elmore's wisdom and persistent preparation have equipped all of her quiz bowlers well for the sometimes inequitable challenges they will face throughout life; and

WHEREAS, many of the Gulfport High School Quiz Bowl Team members participate in more than one activity, having to balance not only school work during the day, but also multiple hours of meetings and practices beginning as soon as the school day ends; and

WHEREAS, the roster of the 2009-2010 Gulfport High School Quiz Bowl Team includes Seniors James Brumbaugh, who serves as team Captain, Brad Lanier and Harry Kajdan; Junior Kinsey Zarske; and Sophomore Zac Bodenhamer; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of these stellar students is not only a clear indication of their outstanding academic ability, dedication and hard work, but also their drive and determination to be the best in the Quiz Bowl and in the classroom; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such a superb group of students who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Gulfport High School Quiz Bowl Team upon winning the 2010 Mississippi State Quiz Bowl and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Gulfport High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
