A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING ANNABETH BREEDEN UPON BEING NAMED A DISTINGUISHED FINALIST IN THE 22ND ANNUAL PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS.

     WHEREAS, Annabeth Breeden, an esteemed resident of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and an incomparably selfless student at Vicksburg Catholic School, merited prestigious, national recognition for her exemplary volunteer service as one of the top youth volunteers in Mississippi when she was named a 2017 Distinguished Finalist in the 22nd Annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and

     WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across America, like Annabeth, who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and

     WHEREAS, all public and private middle and high schools in the country, as well as all Girl Scout Councils, County 4-H organizations, American Red Cross Chapters, YMCAs, Camp Fire USA Councils and volunteer centers, were eligible to select a student or member for a local Prudential Spirit of Community Award, and after the local honorees were reviewed, Distinguished Finalists were selected based on criteria such as personal initiative, creativity, effort, impact and personal growth; and

     WHEREAS, as a Distinguished Finalist, an extraordinary honor has been bestowed upon Annabeth, who will receive an engraved bronze medallion at a local ceremony, as more than 31,000 young people across the country participated for the honor in this year's program; and

     WHEREAS, Annabeth received this honor through her hard work and dedication as an active member and president of the Mississippi State Society Children of the American Revolution, a position that she utilized to promote the historical significance and beautiful architecture that lines the streets of the City of Vicksburg and the surrounding communities; and

     WHEREAS, through her strenuous efforts to raise money through presentations and coordinated fundraisers at the regional, state and national level, Annabeth has strived to provide lighting at the historic Rosalie Mansion in Natchez, Mississippi, so that when darkness engulfs the oldest city in Mississippi, the intricate details of the antebellum mansion's marvelous, robust white columns and its uniquely southern charm can be illuminated and admired by the city's residents as well as visitors from afar; and

     WHEREAS, consumed with a remarkable spirit of volunteerism, Annabeth Breeden serves as an icon and role model for her peers, as her extraordinary example of selfless service to others encourages and inspires all those around her to volunteer, and those outstanding efforts have showered benevolence onto her community and brought pride and honor to the City of Vicksburg, Vicksburg Catholic School and the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to pay special recognition to exceptional young Mississippians such as Annabeth Breeden, a young adult of incredible leadership ability and compassion who recognized the hardships of her fellow citizens and charged herself with remedying them through selfless hard work and dedication, representing the very best of America's youth and the future of this great Magnolia State:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Annabeth Breeden upon being named a Distinguished Finalist in the 22nd Annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Annabeth Breeden and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
