A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DR. KELLY ROUSE ON BEING NAMED INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JEFFERSON DAVIS CAMPUS OF MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.
WHEREAS, Dr. Kelly Rouse, a Biology instructor and Biology SLO Coordinator at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, has been named Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College; and
WHEREAS, established by the Alumni Association of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, the award is presented to an outstanding educator chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators on the basis of teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Rouse, a traditional classroom and online instructor for the past 21 years who has been employed at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past nine years, was selected to receive the award in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and
WHEREAS, a resident of Biloxi, Mississippi, Dr. Rouse earned her bachelor of science degree from William Carey College and her master of science degree and Ph.D. in science education from the University of Southern Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, in addition to her tireless efforts in the classroom to help individual students successfully grasp concepts being studied, Dr. Rouse has worked to better the entire Jefferson Davis Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College by serving as a member of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College – Jefferson Davis Faculty Association, coordinator for the school's Kid's College Science Camp and sponsor of the Red Cross Club; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Rouse, a prior recipient of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College – Jefferson Davis Lamplighter Excellence in Teaching Award, promotes the study of science and teaching in general by volunteering countless hours of her time to various professional organizations, including her service as: a participant in the McGraw-Hill First Exam Challenge and Focus Group; a presenter at the Mississippi Science Teacher's Association Conference; a Mississippi Science Collaboration Initiative Representative; and the event coordinator for the Mississippi Science Olympiad Tournament; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to pay special recognition to exceptional teachers such as Dr. Kelly Rouse, an extraordinarily talented educator who has dedicated her career to teaching and bettering the lives of young Mississippians, who are the future of our state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dr. Kelly Rouse on being selected Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend to her best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Kelly Rouse, the Jefferson Davis Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
