A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING NFL PROFESSIONAL CHARLES CROSS OF LAUREL, MISSISSIPPI, ON BEING A MEMBER OF THE SUPER BOWL LX CHAMPIONSHIP SEATTLE SEAHAWKS TEAM.

     WHEREAS, on February 8, 2026, in a thrilling hard-fought game sure to not be forgotten, the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots by a score of 29-13 in Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, incredibly securing the franchise's second Super Bowl Championship in its 50-year history; and

     WHEREAS, making significant contributions to the Seahawks' historic victory in the Super Bowl was an exceptionally talented offensive lineman impressively ranked near the top among his peers in the NFL who hails from the Magnolia State - Charles Ellis Cross of Laurel, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, born on November 25, 2000, in Laurel, Charles attended Laurel High School and played in the 2018 All-American Bowl in his senior year, and although he initially committed to play for Florida State, Charles, selected for the Clarion Ledger's Dandy Dozen, decommitted in favor of signing with Mississippi State University before graduating from high school; and

     WHEREAS, named the Bulldogs' starting left tackle going into his redshirt freshman season, Charles started 10 games and was named to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) All-Freshman Football Team in his first year in Starkville; and

     WHEREAS, following a sophomore season at Mississippi State in which he was a preseason second-team All-SEC selection and was considered one of the top offensive tackle prospects for the 2022 NFL draft, Charles declared for the 2022 NFL draft and was selected ninth overall in the first round by the Seattle Seahawks; and

     WHEREAS, as a standout rookie under a four-year contract with the Seahawks, Charles appeared in and started all 17 regular season games and one playoff game in the 2022 season, and in 2023, he appeared in and started in 14 games, missing three due to injury, before starting in all 17 games during the 2024 season; and

     WHEREAS, in 2025, the Seahawks exercised a fifth-year option on Charles' first contract, and in January of 2026, he signed an unbelievable four-year, $104.4 million contract extension with $75 million guaranteed, the largest deal for a non-quarterback in franchise history, making Charles the NFL's third-highest-paid left tackle based on the new-money average; and

     WHEREAS, while offensive linemen aren't always in the spotlight, Charles' consistent and ever-improving performance as a left tackle, one of the most critical positions on any team relied on to protect a quarterback's blind side, earned him the second-best pass-blocking grade of any offensive lineman in the 2026 playoffs, with an 85.3 mark, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF), which places him near the top for his position; and

     WHEREAS, Charles' winning appearance in his first Super Bowl, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase his extraordinary talent and determination, doubled as a rare moment for Laurel High School, Bulldog Nation and the entire state to be represented in one of the world's biggest sporting events; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend individuals such as Charles Cross, one of our own sons who exemplifies the talent, perseverance and spirit that Mississippi produces, thereby bringing immense pride to Laurel High School, the City of Laurel, Mississippi State University and the entire state through his achievements on the national stage:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Charles Ellis Cross of Laurel, Mississippi, on his outstanding professional football career with the Seattle Seahawks and on winning Super Bowl LX and extend sincere wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Charles Ellis Cross and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
