WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and time to every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, the grand architect of the universe, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny, has summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Minister W.L. Holman, to eternal rest, as he has made life's final transition from earthly travailing to heavenly reward, rendering great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi and the Greenwood Community lost a wonderful friend, community leader, devout Christian and serviceman on September 11, 2014, with the passing of Minister Holman, who was born on January 1, 1950, to the late Leroy and Mable Holman; and

WHEREAS, he confessed a childhood hope in Christ at an early age and joined Bear Marsh Baptist Church in Carrollton, Mississippi, and later joined Word of Faith under the leadership of Reverend E.J. Ware, where he served as a deacon and associate minister; and

WHEREAS, after marrying the love of his life, Kathleen Vasser-Holman, his wife of seven years, his church membership was moved to Locust Grove Missionary Baptist Church, which was under the leadership of Reverend William E. Morris, where he dutifully served as an associate minister; and

WHEREAS, recognizing how important education was to realizing his full potential, Minister Holman earned his high school diploma, graduating from Marshall High School in Carrollton, and then furthered his education at Mississippi Valley State University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in social work and a master's degree in criminal justice; and

WHEREAS, wanting to loyally serve his country, Minister Holman enlisted in the Vietnam War where he faithfully and honorably served on active duty for two years, and he continued his military duties by joining the United States Army Reserves for 20 years, retiring after 22 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Minister Holman began his career with the Mississippi Department of Corrections in 1977 as a correctional officer, and due to his impeccable work ethic and honest nature, he was promoted first to sergeant, and subsequently to the ranks of lieutenant, captain and major before receiving a final promotion to the position of Warden of Unit 32 of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, from which he retired in 2002; and

WHEREAS, though he has traversed the river of life to reunite with those who answered God's summons to life eternal and now beckon his arrival to the celestial shores of heaven's grandeur, including his parents, and two brothers, Leroy, Jr. and John Holman, the legacy of Minister Holman's memory will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of his beloved survivors: devoted wife, Kathleen, affectionately called "Miss KV"; children, Second Lieutenant Stedman Holman, Clinton J.
