A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED CAREER AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF MR. JOHN TOMLINSON UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY.
WHEREAS, on June 30, 2016, John Tomlinson retired from his position as the Director of University Governmental Support with Mississippi State University after 29 years of dedicated service to his university and the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, as director, Mr. Tomlinson worked with top Mississippi State administrators and Magnolia State legislators to determine how taxpayer monies are allocated to institutions of higher learning and represents the university's interests in all legislative matters that may affect it; and
WHEREAS, the main focus of Mr. Tomlinson's work was promoting legislation that he thought would help improve the lives of everyday people, and to that end he helped promote a bill in 2014 that involved medical leave for adoptive or foster children of nine-month faculty members; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Tomlinson, who earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in animal science from Mississippi State, has ensured throughout his career that the 138-year-old land-grant institution continues to benefit the statewide population it was established to serve; and
WHEREAS, in honor of his exceptional performance, Mr. Tomlinson was awarded the Donald W. Zacharias Distinguished Staff Award at Mississippi State in 2007; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Tomlinson is an active member of First United Methodist Church in Starkville, where he serves in the church's broadcast television ministry; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to acknowledge and commend those who serve our public institutions, and in turn, serve the people of this state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the long and distinguished career of Mr. John Tomlinson upon the occasion of his retirement from Mississippi State University and extend to him sincerest wishes for a long and healthy retirement marked by continued success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. John Tomlinson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
