A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING WILLIAM M. "MITCH" STENNETT UPON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER SERVING 25 YEARS AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF JONES COUNTY.

     WHEREAS, William M. "Mitch" Stennett, a highly respected economic developer in the State of Mississippi, recently retired from the Economic Development Authority of Jones County, Mississippi, after 25 years of dedicated service as president of the organization; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Stennett, who began his economic development career in Tupelo, Mississippi, with the Community Development Foundation in 1979, served the State of Mississippi as a Regional Developer for the Mississippi Department of Economic and Community Development from 1985 through 1986; and

     WHEREAS, in addition, Mr. Stennett served as Executive Director of the Clarksdale-Coahoma County Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Foundation from 1986 through 1990; and

     WHEREAS, in 1998, Mr. Stennett was named Mississippi's Outstanding Economic Developer for 1997-1998 when he received the Harry A. Martin Award recognizing his outstanding achievement in the field of community and economic development; and

     WHEREAS, during his career, Mr. Stennett served as the President of the 17-state Southern Economic Development Council, and in 2004, Mr. Stennett was named an Honorary Life Member of the Southern Economic Development Council for his commitment to community economic development; and

     WHEREAS, over the course of his 36 years in the economic development profession, Mr. Stennett has been instrumental in facilitating the creation of over 8,000 jobs and capital investments of more than $500 million in the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, a former president of the Mississippi Economic Development Council, Mr. Stennett was named an Honorary Life Member of the Mississippi Economic Development Council in 2015; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Stennett has loyally spent his career spanning 36 years in the service of our state's citizens working to create jobs; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize outstanding Mississippians such as Mr. Stennett, whose tireless commitment to economic development in Mississippi and constant striving to improve the lives of the people of this state through increased employment opportunities has greatly benefited not only the individual lives of many, but the entire State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate William M. "Mitch" Stennett upon his retirement as President of the Economic Development Authority of Jones County, Mississippi, and for his long and distinguished career as an economic developer in the State of Mississippi and wish him continued success in his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. William M. "Mitch" Stennett and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
