A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING VICKSBURG BLUES SOCIETY MUSICIAN, MR. CASTRO COLEMAN, ALSO KNOWN AS MR. SIPP, "THE MISSISSIPPI BLUES CHILD" UPON BEING CROWNED THE 2014 CHAMPION OF THE 30TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL BLUES CHALLENGE PRESENTED BY THE BLUES FOUNDATION IN MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE.
WHEREAS, January 25, 2014, will forever be the day that solidified the musical artistry and indomitable presence of Mr. Castro Coleman, who dons the stage moniker Mr. Sipp, "The Mississippi Blues Child," on the national Blues scene when the Blues Foundation vetted him with the coveted championship title for the 30th Annual International Blues Challenge, held at the historic and majestic Orpheum Theatre, located in the heart of the Memphis entertainment district at the corner of Main and Beale Streets; and
WHEREAS, born August 25, 1976, to Johnelle and the late Vera Coleman in the small town of McComb, Mississippi, Mr. Sipp began his journey of becoming a musical prodigy at the age of six, when he picked up the guitar, and the rest is music history; and
WHEREAS, revered as an awesome vocalist, songwriter, musician, composer, producer and entertainer, Mr. Sipp has more than 125 credits and has played on more than 50 national recordings with several Grammy-nominated projects; and
WHEREAS, distinguishing himself from a field of 250 bands, from 40 states and 16 countries who competed in the 2014 IBC competition, Mr. Sipp, with an inherent gift of musicality and appreciation was determined to take the competition and the world by storm after competing and reaching the finals during the 2013 IBC; and
WHEREAS, having traveled the globe extensively from Russia to Germany and several other countries to share his gift of music, Mr. Sipp's 2014 was a whirlwind of excitement, accolades and new beginnings with the 2014 IBC win, amongst others, including the 2014 Gibson Best Guitarist Award, the 2014 Jus' Blues Bobby Rush Entertainers Award, landing an endorsement by Epiphone, receiving a National Artist of the Year nomination by the Jackson Music Awards, and being cast in the 2014-released James Brown biopic "Get on Up"; and
WHEREAS, a God fearing family man and father of four daughters, Mr. Sipp, has been spoken of becoming the next "King of the Blues" as he validates the authenticity of Mississippi's designation as the cradle of America's music, where blues was born in its deep and fertile soil; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize the accomplishments of Mississippi's native sons who have made such an indelible impression in the music industry by receiving such a prestigious honor and bestowing an overwhelming sense of pride upon this state, as evidenced by the achievements of Mr. Sipp, whose motto is "I'm living to love the life that I live, music!":
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Vicksburg Blues Society musician, Mr. Castro Coleman, also known as Mr. Sipp, "The Mississippi Blues Child" upon being crowned the 2014 champion of the 30th Annual International Blues Challenge presented by the Blues Foundation in Memphis, Tennessee, and extend most sincere wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Sipp and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
