House Concurrent Resolution 39
(As Adopted by House and Senate)
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2016 CHOCTAW CENTRAL LADY WARRIORS SLOW-PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Choctaw Central Lady Warriors Slow-pitch Softball Team defeated Mooreville in a two-game sweep to claim the 2016 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A Slow-pitch State Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Warriors won the first game of the series 6-5, and then took the second game in dominating fashion, defeating Mooreville by an impressive score of 13-2; and
WHEREAS, finishing the season with a record of 25-5, the Lady Warriors proved that as the only Native American school in the state they can compete with, and defeat, some of the best schools and well-contended teams in the state; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Warriors swept Perry Central on the road in their bid for the South State Championship to earn the highly coveted spot to challenge Mooreville in the state title game; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Warriors have had great success in past years, winning the title in 2013, and making it to the South State Championship every year since 2012, but in Coach Crystal Roach's first year as head coach, they came together as a team and ensured this would be a season not long forgotten; and
WHEREAS, one key to the Lady Warriors' success is that they never lack competition, as for the past five seasons, the Class 3A champion has come from their region, ensuring that the Lady Warriors better themselves through facing off against stiff competition game after game; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Crystal Roach continues to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in her ability to produce high caliber players and by the team's incredibly successful season; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to honor and commend the extraordinary student athletes of this state, such as the Choctaw Central Lady Warriors, whose outstanding and successful feats of athleticism and sportsmanship bring great pride to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Choctaw Central Lady Warriors Slow-pitch Softball Team and Head Coach Crystal Roach for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Championship, and extend best wishes for continued success in the years to come.
